Read any Good Books Lately?

Featured Replies

Just finished No Country For Old Men. It was a great book...brings up a lot of good questions about life. Since the Coen Brothers did the movie, I would like to see it as well.

I hope the book ended better than the movie.:irked:

Does anyone read Vince Flynn's books with the main character Mitch Rapp? Good reads.

Just picked up a copy of The Brothers Karamazov. That should keep me busy this weekend!:dancingpa

I'm hoping to finish up Michener's "Hawaii" this weekend.

I'm in the middle of the Harry Turtledove "Southern Victory" series. It is a series of 11 books spaning the time from from 20 years after the Civil war through the end of WWII. It is an alternate history based on the premise that the South won the Civil War abd the CSA existed as a separate country through WWII. And the best thing is that I learned of this series from a thread here.

I'm hoping to finish up Michener's "Hawaii" this weekend.

Have you liked it? I feel like I have a personal stake in this one.

I believe that this was one of Michener's first, if not his very first, "epic historical fiction" novel. He wrote it in 1959. I picked up 5 or 6 of these a couple of weeks ago at Half Price books.

As is generally the case with his novels, there are stretches that are a little slow, and stretches that are more entertaining. I liked Chesapeake and Alaska better; but all of these books are "my cup of tea". I give it an "8".

Finally, something on which we can agree.

I have read Flynn's first seven books and have downloaded Act of Treason. IMO, Flynn's books would make a good series of movies.

Lets take a few minutes to savor this moment.......

Agreed on the movies. I'm behind you. This is only my 2nd book.

About two-thirds of the way through Michener's "Chesapeake"; I've read it before but I really have a soft spot for it because my mother's family is from Maryland's Eastern Shore.

I'm also about halfway through Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child's "Wheel of Darkness". I'm an Agent Pendergast fan for sure.

Mcpapa, you will appreciate a book I read over Christmas - "Apollo 13" by Jim Lovell. As you can imagine MUCH more in depth than the movie...and I LOVE the movie!

I just finished reading " Arctic Drift " by Clive and Dirk Cussler . I am currently reading " Almost a Miracle " by John Ferling about the American Revolution , " Looking for Lincoln " " The making of an American Icon " by Phillip B. Kunhardt III , Peter W. Kunhardt ,& Peter W. Kunhardt Jr. and Inkheart by Cornelia Funke .

I have read "Lost Moon" by Jim Lovell; several years ago. Is that the same book?
