That's why he's so dangerous to the 2nd Amendment and our freedoms. What about guns do you have a problem with, miragesmack? I mean lawfully bought and owned guns.

 

Again, I don't want to trample on others rights here, but they just don't interest me, and it's not an issue I would fight for. I don't think the framers had today's weapons in mind 200+ years ago. It's mostly the assault rifle issue that bothers me. I don't think think everyone needs to have them, and I don't think the gun industry polices itself enough, which leads to extra scrutiny.

Just out of curiousity what do you mean by an assault rifle? Something that fires like one or something that looks like one? There are a number of civilian weapons that are identical to an assault rifle in ever way except that it does not posess fully automatic capability.

 

For example:

 

An AR-15 looks identical to an M-16 to most people however the AR does not have the ability to fire in a 3 round burst or fully automatic(fires as long as there is ammo and trigger is held down). All an AR-15 can do is fire a round as quickly as someone can pull the trigger. Fully Automatic weapons (like an M-16) require a Class 3 license (which is a couple thousand dollars annually) and for the individual to register with the ATF and the Federal government. Additionally once you have done so you have to keep a strict tally of how much ammunition you use and have on hand because the Federal Government reserves the right to come into your home and inspect your logs and records at any time. On top of that, the weapons themselves are ridiculously expensive and any parts needed to turn something from semi-automatic into a fully automatic weapon require said license and are also notoriously hard to acquire.

Criminals who use these weapons aren't the type that come by them legally. More often than not they are smuggled into the states.

 

 

More often than not when people talk about an assault weapon they are thinking of a military "looking" weapon with a fraction of the capability.

Pep hit the nail on the head. The AR-15 and similar models are very popular for play and hunting. The are very accurate and allow for many options. They are no different in operation then any semi auto high powered rifle such as a Remington 7400 series or Benelli's R1 (both of which are deer/big game rifles).
