Knott Central or Hazard in the 14th Region?

Featured Replies

I was just looking at the write up on both of these teams. Knott Central has a pair of outstanding guards who can fill it up in Tate Cox and Stuart Stamper. Hazard has 3 of the top 10 players in the region in Whitaker, Campbell and Jones. They made a nice run last season going 31-5 and I think they might be my darkhorse this year along with Clark Co to possibly get to the finals of the Sweet 16. Any thoughts from you 14th Region fans?

I see this matchup as a toss up. Hazard has the experience factor over KCC, but KCC has the advantage at the guard position. Warren is also a nice player for Hazard in addition to the three you mentioned.

Didn't Tate Cox go to June Buchanen last year? I know I heard something about that school closing possibly. Where is the younger Stepp kid going to high school?

I dont see them as a darkhorse. You have to see them as top 3, IMO with Scott Co. and Holmes. At least 2 of those 3 will be on the same side of the bracket. Now, if they ALL end up on the same side, then yes they wiould be a darkhorse.

Sorry for the hijacking. I'm going with Hazard, BTW. We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread already in progress.

Are we forgetting about LCC and PCC? Both teams are very loaded and well coached. Neutral site for the top 4, Hazard,PCC,LCC and KCC. Anything could happen.

I feel pretty confident saying that Hazard is the best team in the Mtns. Let alone against KCC. They were 1 of the best teams I seen all summer without Campbell. Hazard is very good!

I agree that Hazard is the team to beat in the 14th. However, there are 3 other legit teams that could put one in their ear if they don't play well. With the regional tourney being at Powell this year, all 4 teams will have to travel and that does effect kids. I like Hazard and do agree that KCC is the weaker of the other 3 but PCC and LCC will give them all they want.

I agree with this, anything could happen, but I still think Hazard is at the top of the list.

Hazard. BTW, they will beat Perry Central in every match up between the two this season.

PCC or LCC in an upset at Powell Co.

Man you must be a diehearted bulldog fan to say something like that. I seen PCC play several time this summer and they played awful good and besides they have about the same team back from last yr. with I think that they also landed the Salyers kid from Breathitt Co. who is about 6'4 and a real good inside player if I'm not mistaken. And also Hatcher is one heck of a coach maybe the best in the eastern part of this state.

Far from it man...I'm a fan of a team that is in the same district as Hazard (Leslie) & I am a fan of good basketball in which Hazard has. It's not that I am a "die hard" Bulldog fan or a PCC hater. I tell it like it is & Hazard is the better team & I think they will win each game they play against Perry Central. You do know that they quit playing the regular season match up between the 2 so it's not that bold of a prediction right? BTW, I know Hatcher is a good coach, because of the success he had at his previous school (the name of the school escapes me) but that does not mean he can automatically make his players all of a sudden be good. Perry has a couple nice players but Hazard has about 4 really nice players. You say Perry has about the same team as last year but so does Hazard. Hazard was the better team last year & they will be again this year. Go Leslie County! (who BTW, will be one of the less talented teams in the 14th this upcoming season) :thumb:

Knott will be competitive, but without Brent Hall and losing "Buttermilk" Caudill to injury, they will be soft in the paint. Hatcher makes Perry a contender, but they don't look to have enough individual talent. Letcher is a darkhorse with 4 returning starters, but their guards are awefully small. Lee County has a proven scorer and post player but no guard play. Hazard is beatable, but the addition of Eric Back in January will fill a hole in their backcourt. My, far from expert, opinion would be:

1. Hazard

2. Knott Central

3. Perry Central

4. Letcher Central

5. Lee County
