Huckabee had no chance to win. The only reason he remained in the race so long was to split the conservative vote. You forget that the media still loved McCain during the primaries and they were happy to paint him in the most favorable light possible until he clinched the nomination.

 

If Huckabee had been a true conservative, he would have withdraw and thrown his support behind the most conservative candidate with a chance to win and that was Romney.

 

And McCain would have received almost zero press coverage. Huckabee's continued presence at least brought some light onto McCain.

Had it not been for Huckabee, we McCain might not have needed any publicity. He might have been at home watching the election on TV.

:thumb: Newt was great in engineering the 1994 conservative revolution and Republicans need somebody in both the House and the Senate to rise to the occasion and become "Newts." In order for Newt to win the presidency, things the economy would need to be far worse than it is today, and if that is the case, I believe that Romney will be virtually impossible to beat for the Republican nomination in 2012.

I don't doubt that you could be right. I just think it remains to be seen how the conservative south responds a former Hindu Indian.

 

As a conservative southerner, I like the guy. It was thought by some that the conservative south wouldn't rally behind a female, but they really did rally behind Palin. You might be surprised how much more intelligent many in the conservative south group really are. We are not all racists or sexists as some in the media would have you believe.

 

As far as Newt, ... he if very intelligent, but can come across as a big arrogant. However, he should have a hand in rebuilding the republican party.

That is what I meant. I think his ideas would enhance the Republican party. I don't think he could win the presidency but with what's happening in the party he would be a good change of pace and might shake things up a little bit which is definetly needed.

Michael Steele has also shown some interest in the top RNC spot and I am inclined to back Steele over Gingrich at this point but either one would do a good job, IMO.
