November 13, 200817 yr Nobody has thrown this out there that I can see: What about Newt's past personal issues? If memory serves he admitted to having an affair while in Congress. He divorced his wife when she was going through health issues and the appearance of that event would not play well with social conservatives and/or be a point the DNC could exploit. For those reasons I don't think Newt is electable.

Is she too closely associated with Bush?Condi is too closely associated with abortion (she does not oppose it) and she has no experience running for elected office. Neither factor alone would keep her from winning the nomination but the combination would be difficult to overcome. Add to that the pitiful campaign that John McCain ran and it does not bode well for any moderate Republican in 2012, IMO - or at least it should not bode well for them. If Dole and McCain did not demonstrate to the GOP the idiocy of running moderate, white US Senators for the presidency, then the party may not be teachable.
