November 5, 200817 yr That's the John McCain I like..........that was a great speech.:thumb: :thumb: Absolutely!!
November 5, 200817 yr I think you may need to re look at some of Obama's plans. Obama has offered a detailed plan to get America’s economy back on track, by creating new jobs and easing the burden on hardworking Americans by offering middle-class tax cuts three times the size of McCain’s. In all honesty the middle class is the key to this country as they out number both the upper and lower class. By ignoring them, which McCain would have chose to do, our country could end up adding $3.4 trillion to the national debt. Raising taxes on businesses? Didn't Obama say he will eliminate all capital gains taxes on startup and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation? Obama did propose $900 billion on new government programs. What you failed to mention was one of those programs is the "No Child Left Behind Act" where Obama plans to invest a substantial amount of money in to education nationwide for younger kids so that they receive the best possible education. Also failed to mention that a lot of that money will be used toward kids being able to go to college in exchange for community service. Sure he proposed a lot of money but how are these programs not helping the economy and country when the majority of it is going to innovation, creating new jobs, and helping the younger population further the education. We have to remember that they are the future of this country...not us. McCain's plan focused more on the how he could benefit the upper class whereas Obama is focused on helping the middle and lower classes. Didn't a certain president by the last name of Clinton do the same which led our economy and country to prosper for 8 years?? Alright, a taker!!! Game on! I have looked at Obama's plans. That is where I got my information, not from his talking points. 1. Government doesn't create jobs, they can incentivize businesses to create jobs, especially in the energy field which both candidates proposed. 2. I kept hearing from Obama early on how NCLB is such a failure, but Obama is going to put more money in it? 3. I asked why increase taxes on ANYONE, believe it or not, that also includes those who make over $250,000 who invest more and create more jobs. I am okay with the middle class tax cuts but how many jobs does that create? 4. Clinton listened to Greenspan and was a beneficiary of the dot.com boom which has recently bottomed out. 5. McCain's plan also had tax cuts for middle class and did not 'ignore' them as you put it. Not as much in tax cuts as Obama proposed, but if you read his plan you would see that they are there. I still ask you why increase taxes on ANYONE? You can listen to folks whine about the top 6% of the wage earners, yet those wage earners pay the vast majority of the taxes. You do understand that eliminating small business capital gains taxes is a red herring don't you? Small businesses are taxed on income NOT capital gains. The only ones who would receive any help that way are real estate investment firms and that is a good thing. And as far as tax increases, he has tax increases proposed for businesses, just read his plan not the talking points from his speeches. Obama has a capital gains increase proposed as well as increasing the business taxes. You list creating jobs for hard working Americans, ... which of his proposals and policies actually creates more private sector jobs , not government jobs? What about minimum wage? What about cap & credits increasing the cost for over 50% of our county's electricity? What about the death tax?

What about cap & credits increasing the cost for over 50% of our county's electricity? What about the death tax? 1. How does government NOT create jobs? By investing in programs such as the Advanced Manufacturing Fund and Manufacturing Extension Partnership, you are giving companies incentives to become more innovative and create better products which in the end leads to more jobs. The MEP works with manufacturers across the country to improve efficiency, implement new technology and strengthen company growth. In 2006 alone, helped create and protect over 50,000 jobs by engaging in over 350,000 projects. But despite that success, funding for MEP was slashed by the Bush administration. Obama plans to double the funding for MEP. How is that not helping the economy? 2. NCLB was a failure because Bush didn't give it enough support. By putting more money in to, Obama will create more jobs for people to help oversee the program nationwide and ensure that our youth are receiving the education that they need in order to be successful later in life. 3/5. Why shouldn't the top 6% of wage earners have to pay the majority of the taxes when some of those wage earners are sending their operations overseas to make things "cheaper" on them and receive billions of dollars in tax deductions when that money could be going towards programs such as the State Growth Fund to prevent state and local cuts in health, education, housing, and heating assistance or counterproductive increases in property taxes, tolls or fees. This plan also includes $25 billion in a Jobs and Growth Fund to prevent cutbacks in road and bridge maintenance and fund school repair - all to save more than 1 million jobs in danger of being cut. You also failed to mention that those top 6% of wage earners, while paying more taxes are being rewarded through the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 for creating good jobs with good benefits for American workers. They receive a tax credit for maintaining or increasing the number of full-time workers in America relative to those outside the US; maintaining their corporate headquarters in America if it has ever been in America; paying decent wages; preparing workers for retirement; providing health insurance; and support employees who serve in the military. 4. Clinton did what any good president would do and that's listening to those who are experts in their field rather than surrounding himself with friends whom he's faithful to such as Bush did. By raising minimum wage it increases the Earned Income Tax Credit which make sure that full-time workers earn a living wage that allows them to raise their families and pay for basic needs. What's so wrong with that? All of the things listed are helping the ENTIRE economy and not just one division of it. (The Upper Class) IMO Obama is doing all the right things to ensure that our economy recovers from the rut that Bush has put it in. If I'm not mistaken F.D.R proposed some plans similar to Obama's of today and while many didn't like it, it immediately helped the economy recover from what the Hoover administration had put it in.

MT let me take a crack. 1. Sounds dangerously like Keynesian economics, which have been widely criticized. Also, remember that your statement says "more funding", which means more federal spending. 2. Not very familiar with NCLB, but once, again, "more funding". 3. The top 5% already pay 57% of the federal income taxes. And, again, "more funding" 4. Agreed it is all about surrounding yourself and actually listening to people. The problem with raising the minimum wage is that it will cause unemployment. Businesses can't pay that much, or they would be already to compete for the best workers. 5. I'd make the argument that FDR's New Deal extended the Great Depression. And I would blame it more on the Federal Reserve's monetary policies than on anything that Herbert Hoover could or did do. FDR's New Deal required a lot of funding, as well. If President Elect Obama does all he says he wants to do, he is going to be spending a lot of money and he is inheriting a regime that racked up our national debt big time.
November 5, 200817 yr Yes his speech of accepting his loss was the most dignified of the losers in recent memory.

Your posts have a lot of misinformation and cause/effect mistakes that do not add up. I'll only address the last as the others have been hashed over time after time. FDR's policies DID NOT help the economy recover. It was several years later and it took WWII to do it.
November 5, 200817 yr Author Had the banks not failed as they did, this election may have been different. However, I respect and admired Senator John McCain for all he has done for our great nation and the grace and dignity with which he accepted this loss. This may be the most humble and sincere speech from a candidate who lost that I have ever witnessed. When McCain said 'You didn't fail, I did', I just about cried. Thank you Senator McCain for your past and continued service to our country. You are a true American hero. I shed several tears last night, that was when they started.
