Just off the top of my head 3 people that will probably at least take a long look at it are Palin, Pawlenty, and Jindal....

 

 

I would be very happy with Jindal. I think he should have been the VP nominee this time around.

I think that McCain was their best choice to offer. They needed the votes of independents and moderates in order to win. Anyone more "right" wouldn't have gotten the job done, either, losing more states.

I disagree. Someone more to the right would have followed the Bush plan of focusing on abortion and guns. Single issue votes were ignored by McCain, and from there it was over before it started...

Anyone know anything about Paul Ryan, congressman from Wis? Saw an interview with him earlier on Fox News. He hit the nail on the head about the direction the Rep party needs to take.

Someone from the right could have easily won this election if they were actually from the right. Republicans botched this one as bad or worse than the Dems did with Gore and Kerry...

I think the Republican Party set McCain up to fail. They new they did not have much of a chance to win this election so they sent him to lose.

Sarah Palin or Mike Huckabee will rally the religious right if Obama implements a massive social liberal agenda. If abortion laws are loosened and state gay marriage amendments are declared unconstitutional the religious right will come back in force like they did in 2000 and 2004 and the Democrats will be left to scratch their heads again.

Add 3 new justices to the high court and you'd be amazed what they can find in the constitution. Go read Roe v. Wade they completely made up clauses that they claimed while not listed in the constitution were "implied by it." The idea of equality can't be achieved under the federal constitution could easily get state amendments declared unconstitutional under the U.S. constitution.

:thumb: I hope that enough Republicans agree with you to keep the GOP from following the Democratic Party down the path toward socialism. I knew that the media would turn on McCain as soon as the general campaign began. McCain should have been on the attack as soon as he wrapped up the nomination. He campaigned as if he had a sizable lead.

 

IMO, had McCain named any of the moderates who were supposedly among the front runners for the VP slot instead of Sarah Palin, turnout would have been light and the margin of victory would have been much worse.

 

I hope that the Republican Party learns the right lessons from this defeat but I am not optimistic that it will.

They are unconstitutional. Just like segregation was unconstitutional. I have read Roe v. Wade. It is not the government's place to decide that for people.

McCain may have sealed the fate of the Republican Party when he helped organize the Gang of 14 and cut the legs from under Majority Leader Bill Frist who was beginning to show some backbone.

 

Whoever did McCain's internal polling for Pennsylvania should never work another campaign.
