I'm not a fan of either candidate but I do think this is news. How can it not be? If he became president would it be news to you guys then? 'The President's Aunt is living in this country illegally'. Is that not news????

 

Not unless he acted unlawfully or unethically to make it happen. I certainly hope I'm not responsible for things my aunts do - I'd have to move to a different part of the country to keep an eye on them.

How is it not? An illegal alien who happens to be the aunt of one of the candidates for the presidency has been the recipient of federally subsidized housing and has made illegal campaign donations to her nephew, the candidate. Do you seriously believe that those facts are not newsworthy? Or had this news been reported earlier and simply ignored?

When did the campaign find out that the contribution was illegal and return it? Obama wrote about his uncle and aunt in one of his memoirs. Are we to believe that he barely knew the aunt and had no idea that she was an illegal alien? What does it say about his vetting process for campaign donations (or lack thereof) that a close family relative was able to make multiple illegal donations?

 

More than $200 million of Obama's campaign donations fell in the under $200 category and we have no idea how much of that money originated from illegal aliens and non-resident citizens of foreign nations. That is the real story here. The fact that Obama's aunt is an impoverished illegal alien is secondary, IMO.

It's sad that so many people are not concerned about the illegal contributions that Obama has accepted and that they are not concerned by the fact that Obama has deliberately created a process to facilitate the acceptance of those illegal contributions. Nobody needs to inform Obama that his campaign is accepting illegal donations on his behalf. He knows that they are.

Does it trouble you that the Obama campaign has decided to save 12 cents per credit card transaction by not validating the names and addresses of donors or that Obama has refused to publicly disclose the names of donors of less than $200, as McCain has done voluntarily? Are you curious as to where $200 million of Obama's campaigns came from and whether any laws have been systematically broken?

I am concerned that two illegal immigrants were given a deporation order, ignored it, and then our incompetent government hired at least one of the would-be deportees and provided the pair with subsidized public housing. They should leave. The sooner the better.

I do not believe that the program itself is inefficient. No matter how well any program is organized and put in place it only becomes efficient if the individuals in charge do things as they are written, not changing them to what they want them to be. I agree there are many flaws but having to deal with corrupt individuals makes everyones job even more difficult.

I have a hard time being convinced that BO & the Housing Authority had no knowledge of her status as a US citizen.

I fully understand that this is not an isolated case and it happens way to often. The key word is, Illegal.

The 5 page comment was a guidline to go by. You and I both know it wasn't an exact but only a refernece I made between the two parties.

Cville, you were not necessarily one of the ones that I was referring to, but surely you can see that there are those that don't give a hoot why either of these people are in poor circumstances, they just find it entertainment that they are related to Sen. Obama and can take political pleasure in it.

 

Just for the record, I support BOTH Obama and McCain. If you've read my posts, you know that I have defended McCain at times, also. If we had been talking about McCain's relatives and someone responded with laughing and jokes, I would have been equally bothered by it.
