Final

Good game that was nip and tuck til very late in the 2nd quarter when the wheels came off for Marshall County. Mayfield's offense clicked all night and the defense clicked in the second half. Marshall seemed to pack it up for the season in the second half. Marshall County was without what many would claim to be their 2 best players who were both out with injuries.

Mayfield was laying out some licks tonight!! I haven't see that all year, the team swarming to the ball and the onsides was the best I have seen all year, I guess all that practice we did in the Fulton City game paid off for us. I think we got a lot of good practice against the screen tonight and should go into the Caldwell game ready to play. Luke made a couple of interceptions, but its going to happen to a sophomore QB, but he made some great throws as well. If it wasn't for some mistakes this game could have been a bigger lead by Mayfield.

Mayfield may be peaking at the right time. A Mayfield - Crittenden County playoff game sure would be exciting.

The Cards did finally play 4 quarters and even laid some wood last night. I saw some swarming to the ball and good effort the whole night. Murrell is a tough runner and gives a good effort all the time. If Mayfield can play with this intensity the rest of the way I like their chances up to Beechwood. Then I think it would take great effort and some luck to pull that one out.

They are going to have a tough second and third round matchup before Beechwood. Going to Louisville second round is a tall order.

By far and away this was Mayfield's best effort of the season. The team is starting to mature into the team that we thought we would have when the season started. The most telling sign was that when things went wrong in the 2nd quarter we didn't hang our heads like we have done some this season...we came out and took charge of the game on both sides of the ball. Another thing that I liked is that when Marshall started getting a little "chippy" in the 4th quarter, that Mayfield made sure to back away from anything that might get them a flag or worse. If we can continue to improve on what we done Thursday against the Marshals then I feel like we will be a tough out come playoff time.

If they beat HC , whom I know very little about, I like their chances very much against CC. The point being ,if they play 4 quarters of ball each game up to Beechwood I believe they can get it done. Also, I believe whomever wins a Mayfield/HC matchup that winner will be the one to play Beechwood.

NORMALLY, I would love to look ahead to Beechwood, but the way this season has gone I will not count a single egg before it hatches. I agree that Mayfield can handle Crittendon if they decide to play the whole game, but thats a big IF. Not only that, but they have to beat two other teams first (Bethlehem and Holy Cross) before they get another crack at Crittendon.

I ain't really looking ahead, maybe more of a peek. And you're right, one game at a time.

Bug, after a hard look at HC, I like Mayfield's chances against HC. In fact this one looks to be a toss upto me. It is there so I will give them a slight edge but it is a very winnable game for the Cards.
