Numbers do not add up for Ashland and Johnson Central

Featured Replies

Highlands enrollment is 3A and CCH is 4A. They both play up in 5A.

How can a school whose enrollment is 3A consistently be head and shoulders above all of their 5A competition?

I didn't know Highlands was half their size.

Highlands is a 3A school, playing in the 5A class. Highlands used to be in Russell's Class years ago.

They have multiple district games that require 2-3 hour drives and they are wrong to be dissatisfied with that?

Is it only OK to complain about a 3 hour drive if it is for a state championship game? :p

Did you take Birdsfan's post as being sarcastic? I certainly didn't. I took it that he though Ashland had a valid complaint with his post.

They breed good talent. :D

Only 200 in attendance for the BS/Ashland game? Was the weather that bad in Lexington last Friday?

The weather was rainy and cold in central KY last Friday night, but the crowds at Bryan Station (and the other Lex publics for that matter) are always pathetic....

The feeder program in Ft Thomas is second to none . Basically it helps to sustain two programs Highlands and to a lesser extent NCC with players that are prepared to play at the high school level year after year .

I did at first. Now I re-read it and I see that I was wrong to think that. Thanks for calling it to my attention.

Sorry BF. I'll take back my jab and reserve it for future use. :D

Gee, I thought I was agreeing with the article.

It was just so unexpected that it threw me off. :D

I understand. You're just concerned that my blood pressure might be falling to low this early in the day. :p:D

Getting back to the thread.

Here was what the KHSAA had to say about JC's and Ashland's requests to play in 4A.

Johnson Central Made request to play in Class 4A due to

geographic and current student population

concerns.

Denied request. To approve request would have

placed a different enrollment standard on this one

school compared with the other 219. In addition,

another school with exactly the same two-year

average enrollment remains in Class 5A.

Geography of this district will be thoroughly

reviewed as Board works toward 2011 and beyond

alignment during 2008-2009 school year.

Ashland Blazer Requested to move from Class 5A to Class 4A

for 2009 due to geographic problems with

enrollment and enrollment decline since

adoption of alignment.

KHSAA cites the 2 year average enrollment figures for the alignment.

My question remains, which two years did they use to establish the alignment for 2009/2010?

If someone knows, please provide it.

Sounds like they have a cookie-cutter response for any objections.

I usually have a definitive opinion on things like what was discussed in this article, but as of right now I truly do not know how to take this. The KHSAA erollment numbers have certainly been the buzzword on BGP over the past couple weeks though, first for a school playing in a class BELOW what their enrollment reflects. Now, for a team complaining because they are having to "play up".

I know JC took heat on here when they appealed to the KHSAA to play down in 4A citing "travel" as the reason, could this have a direct relationship to that appeal?
