To own an automatic rifle rifle you already have to have a special license (I think its calles a series 3 license) that is very, very difficult to get as I understand it. I don't think many folks have any problem with regs affecting automatic weapons. Its the push to ban or regulate semi automatic weapons (like a semi automatic 12 ga. shotgun regularly used for bird hunting) that has people concerned. When they say they will only ban semi automatic assault weapons, people should be very nervous because deciding what is an assault weapon is very subjective. Heck, I own several weapons on the likely to be banned list. They are simply fun to shoot. I've yet to hurt anyone with them (other than my own hearing). Besides, give me a car full of gas and I could kill many more people than I could with any semi automatic weapon. Any attempt to ban semi automatic weapons is simply a window dressing effort to appease people and wouldn't solve anything. Heck, we can't stop bales of marijuana from getting smuggled into this country. Does anyone logically think we could stop crates of illegal weapons from getting smuggled in? You shouldn't. Then, only the criminals would have those weapons and law abiding people would not. Geez, you'd think people would pull their heads out of their.....well, out of the sand and wise up. Then again, Americans are stupid so they'll probably think banning assualt semi automatic weapons will cut down crime and make the streets safer. Idiots.

As for law abiding citizens needing an automatic weapon...how often would one need one? And if a law abiding citizen used an automatic weapon, how well would they be able to use it? How likely would it be that they would create "collateral damage" and hit innocent people because they do not know how to shoot the automatic weapon correctly?

Taking guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens goes 100% against the 2nd Amendment. There are too many laws in place now, any more would definitely be an assault on our freedoms.

I think you're splitting hairs here. It would be like saying I should be able to go out and buy a fully capable M1 Abrams and tool around the city. There have been changes to the Amendment for safety sake (which is where I think you're going with this) but there are already enough laws in place. No more are needed.

It only made certain types of guns illegal to manufacture in the U.S. and it made ownership of guns manufactured after the date the law took effect illegal. That is not the same as saying Obama and Biden want to ban semi-automatic weapons. Wouldn't every type of gun affected by the AWB still be available in the secondary market? If it is still legal to buy and own these types of guns (through the secondary market), they are not "banned".
