Class 4A Playoff Matchups

Featured Replies

According to my sources, the Western coaching staff have made their players aware that they have forfeited every game prior to the Valley game. On Friday night the District 3 championship will be decided when Valley travels to Fairdale. It is also rumored that the 3 players in question will be ruled eligible for the remainder of the season. The official announcement should be coming soon.

Class 4A, District 3 Overall District

Fairdale 6 - 2 (3 - 0)

Valley 4 - 2 (2 - 1)

Western 1 - 6 (1 - 2)

Atherton 1 - 6 (1 - 2)

Breckinridge County 1 - 7 (1 - 3)

A monkey-wrench could really be thrown into the district race if rumors of Atherton playing an 8th grader in the Breckinridge County vs. Atherton game are valid. If that is true Breckinridge County would chalk up their second forfeit win of the season and would finish in third place in the district standings.

Is this correct IF Western has forfeit?

(4) Larue County at (1) Fairdale/Valley winner

(3) Marion County at (2) Fairdale/Valley loser

(3) Western at (2) North Bullitt

(4) Atherton at (1) Bullitt East

If Atherton has to forfeit and Breckinridge County finishes in third place, how do they determine who gets forth place between Atherton and Western?

Why would a team play an 8th grader at the Varsity level. That is crazy. WHAT are these coaches thinking?

I agree that is crazy.

When will a decision on Region 2 District 3 be made?

If Western ends up getting a 3 or 4 seed than Bullitt East or North Bullitt will end up getting a much harder first round game. Lower seeds Larue and Marion end up getting an easier first round game.

Western forfeits 4 victories

For the second consecutive season the Western High School football team has been forced to forfeit victories because of using an ineligible player. This year it will cost the Warriors a district championship.

Western athletic director Chris Corbin said today that the Kentucky High School Athletic Association has ruled that the Warriors must forfeit their first five games from this season after playing a transfer from Iroquois who had not yet been ruled eligible.

"It's just an unfortunate incident," Corbin said. "The transfer papers didn't get into the right hands until late. The weird thing is that the transfer is eligible now."

The Warriors went 4-1 in their first five games but now must forfeit victories over West Jessamine (27-2), Breckinridge County (42-0), Fairdale (21-16) and Central (12-8). Those games now will be recorded as 1-0 victories for Western's opponents.

The victories over Breckinridge County and Fairdale had helped Western wrap up the Class 4-A, District Three championship, but the forfeits dropped the Warriors (1-6, 1-2) into a third-place tie with Atherton (1-6, 1-2). Both Western and Atherton will qualify for the playoffs starting Nov. 14, and their seeds (No. 3 or 4) will be determined by a points system based on the records of their defeated opponents.

The No. 3 seed will open the playoffs at North Bullitt, the No. 4 seed at Bullitt East.

Valley (4-2, 2-1) will play at Fairdale (6-2, 3-0) on Friday to decide the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds.

Two transfers from Iroquois in 2 years? I can't understand why Western played someone who wasn't eligible yet they have to have know. That is something that shouldn't have been overlooked at all.

Last year the kids transferred from Shawnee to Iroquois at Christmas. Then they transferred from Iroquois to Western at the end of the school year not having played in a varsity contest at Iroquois. When Iroquois signed off that they had not played varsity ball, their appearance in a game at Shawnee in 2007 was not accounted for in the paper work. Western's AD signed off on what Iroquois conveyed to him. Mr. Wyman signed off on their eligibilty without further research. Shawnee then waited after a few games this season and then they turned Western in for using ineligible players. Coach Boyd did nothing wrong as his AD signed off and the JCPS director signed off on these kids. What is really strange is now these boys are eligible per the KHSAA. Western should not have been made to forfeit or the boys should be ineligible for the whole season. As usual, something does not add up when it comes to enforcing the rules in place! ;)

[(4) Russell County at (1) Calloway County

Now that is going to be one heck of a drive. Leave Thursday morning?:creepy:

Although Boyle Co. and Bell Co. are the favorites, this is a pretty wide open field. Region 1 is pretty intriguing to me.

Doesn't that match up the only two schools in the state with the nickname "Lakers"?

^ Hadn't thought of that, but I believe you are correct.

I agree with you on this one just didn't know the whole cicumstance thanks.

They should have to forfeit the games, because the AD did not do his job. Coach Boyd knew the students played at Shawnee, and the AD only sent papers to Iroquois. Meanwhile, the reason those kids were at Iroquois was because they thought Coach Boyd was getting the job at Iroquois. Those kids are eligible because they did have a change of residence, but you have to do the right paperwork, instead of playing stupid. In essence, they cheated and got what they deserved, but it is sad that because of adults stupidity the other kids on this team have to suffer. On the other hand though that is what you get when you hire a person who is out for his personal gain, rather than the kids.
