October 23, 200817 yr Not true ... Powell was probably the lone dissenting voice on Iraq in the Bush administration. Powell went to the UN because he was serving his president. Exactly. Powell was the one who used the Pottery Barn analogy with respect to Iraq (i.e. you break it, you own it) and also advised that they needed far more troops once it was clear it was going to happen. He certainly wasn't pushing the Bush administration toward an invasion.
October 23, 200817 yr Anything to back up those statements that Powell was the only voice of reason? The process of elimination ... Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz were all for going into Iraq. Who else is there that had Bush's ear?
October 23, 200817 yr The process of elimination ... Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz were all for going into Iraq. Who else is there that had Bush's ear? That answer doesn't make sense. Your saying because Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz all for going to Iraq Powell had to be against it?
October 23, 200817 yr One can dream, right! Of working for free? I dream of much better things .
October 23, 200817 yr That answer doesn't make sense. Your saying because Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz all for going to Iraq Powell had to be against it?Powell has publicly stated that he advised Bush not to invade Iraq ... is that the answer you're looking for?
October 23, 200817 yr Powell has publicly stated that he advised Bush not to invade Iraq ... is that the answer you're looking for? Powell tried to talk Bush out of war
October 23, 200817 yr Powell has publicly stated that he advised Bush not to invade Iraq ... is that the answer you're looking for? No... Powell tried to talk Bush out of war This was. Thanks
October 23, 200817 yr Anything to back up those statements that Powell was the only voice of reason? I don't know if Powell was the only voice of reason advising against an Iraq invasion. But it has been well-documented that he strongly cautioned against it with the Pottery Barn analogy. Tommy Franks wrote in his memior that Powell called him in September 2002 to express reservations about force levels for a planned invasion. There were certainly other "voices of reason" on the subject of invasion force size (General Eric Shinseki is one who comes to mind).
October 23, 200817 yr Your faith in my veracity is appreciated ... It's not that I don't trust what you say, but I have seen so much spin and twisting going on from both sides in this election that I it's hard to trust anything without proof. I know you normally don't do such things and your follow up post of stating that Powell publicly state such was actually good enough. I am just having a bad morning and I apologize. Your post about process of elimination is what threw me for a loop.

October 23, 200817 yr This is a interveiw with Powell on the Today show, and a interveiw where John Kerry says it was Powell that he talk to about going to war, where he said Powell was the one that talked him in to voting. He did not tell Bush not to go to war. http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=21231#continueA http://www.politickerma.com/jeremyjacobs/740/kerry-war-vote-powell-made-me-do-it
October 23, 200817 yr This is a interveiw with Powell on the Today show, and a interveiw where John Kerry says it was Powell that he talk to about going to war, where he said Powell was the one that talked him in to voting.Kerry is also reported to have said that he didn't place all the blame on Powell because he, too, wasn't given all the available information. Not to mention that humanevents.com isn't always the most unbiased source of news ... He did not tell Bush not to go to war. Then you're calling the man a liar ...
October 23, 200817 yr Then you're calling the man a liar ... Maybe true, but then again.....unless you believe him, you are calling d1allstar a liar.
