The most impressive thing I saw last night was the Tomcat's ability to grind out first downs and later gash a defense that was playing eight men in the box. In the fourth quarter WC was even walking their free safety up to put a ninth man at the line of scrimmage at the snap. WC playing variations of a 5-3 and a 6-2 goaline type front from the beginning of the game. And did anyone see the crushing block that Josh Alber had on a sweep right in front of the WC bench? I think it was against the WC corner.

The way I look at it, the Ashland-Johnson Central game on October 31st will be for the district championship. Even if Ashland were to lose to Bryan Station on the 24th, the Tomcats would still just have one loss in the district. That would mean if Ashland wins the game on the 31st they would be the district champions because both Ashland and Johnson Central would finish with one loss in the district, but Ashland would win the tie breaker based on the head to head match up.

If you play WC, you need to be ready to score points...lots of them. Ashland knew going into this game that the Yellowjackets surrendered an average of over 300 yards rushing per outing…I just didn’t expect they could score 44 on the Tomcat D.

 

Thank goodness our offense was able to exploit the lack of WC defensive effectiveness…and our defensive adjustments put Ashland in a position to win it.

Congrats to the Tomcats! I am really impressed with the offensive turnaround. Good luck the rest of the way.

This guarantees the two seed to the Ashland/Bryan Station winner. Ashland has the tiebreaker over Woodford on head to head. Although it could theoretically end up a three way tie if Station were to beat Ashland giving all three teams 2 wins and even in the head to head. That's assuming none of them beat Johnson Central. The best Woodford and hope for is the 3 seed now.
