For some reason you failed to mention that Bell is a 4A school and Belfry is a 3A school. And before the class system changed Bell was a 3A school and Belfry a 2A school. I believe if Bell was a class down they would have some state titles recently. Both teams are very good. I can't say for sure who would win between each team every year. But year in and year out Bell plays much tougher competition.

 

The recent Massey ratings (same Carson Newman prof who's formula is used for BCS rankings) has Belfry's strength of schedule at 167 and Bell's at 84! Everyone is always trying to say that Bell doesn't play anyone...but in spite of scheduling problems they still have a fairly strong schedule.

The only thing that gets me is every single year Bell always starts out higher than Belfry in the Mountain Top 10 for whatever reason, including the past five years.

 

In that time Belfry has reached 5 consecutive State Semi's, Reached the Finals 3 Times, and won it all twice. Belfry has also only lost ONCE to any other mountain school during that time (Sheldon Clark who otherwise the Pirates have went 5-1 against) and have been flawless against such power programs as Breathitt County, Pburg, Pikeville, Corbin, Middlesboro, and Somerset. Bell County, have lost 5 games to mountain schools in that span. And if someone wants to use the arguement that Belfry's class has been easier than Bell's over that time, thus the success, then I point to Bell's lone Semi-Finals appearance in 2004. This was, IMO, Bell County's best team in this span, and that group of Bobcats took a loss to a Pburg team who Belfry defeated twice that season.

Belfry's is 167 for 2 reasons.

 

1. District is weak, other than Sheldon Clark.

 

2. NO ONE WILL PLAY THEM A HOME AND HOME, INCLUDING BELL CO!

You would be correct.

You need to have Coach Haywood call Dudley and have Bell in the Bowl game. Bell played in the Pike Co. Bowl in 1988 and loved it. I am sure that Bell would love to come back.

No, I don't think I will "get over it". Bell and Belfry are both undefeated ( which means Belfry hasn't lost either), so why is Bell in front of Belfry? It's the "Mountain Top 10" so there is no need to bring college football into this matter.

 

Well I figured out how we can make everbody happy anybody in the mountains that is undeafeated you get to be number one for a week. So nobody from Belfry or anybody else can complain about anybody else being number one. As Jerry Springer would say "Cant we all just get along."

Belfry has tried to settle this debate the past few years on the field.......and Bell Co. has not stepped up to the challenge.

The number 1 ranking in the mountians and $1.06 will get you a cool ice tea from McD's. It is really no big deal other than being ranked in the top ten gives your team some recognition for all the hard work.

 

Who really cares about being #1 in week six, I am sure that both Belfry and Bell would much rather be #1 about week 15!!!!

Bell Co. did scrimmge Johnson Central the past 2 years. Thats a long trip for both teams, but I think its good they got together.

Listen, I know for a fact that Bell Co. has been approached multiple times about playing Belfry. When this round of contracts started, to replace Ironton and after that to play in the weeks that East Carter and Shelby Valley hold, the last week of the season(JC game) and our open date, Sept 26th.

 

Do you think they wanted to play East Carter?

 

Did I make the phone call? No. The people who told me are as close as you can get.
