I really don't think classifications mean a lot. There has been years past that Danville (as a 1-a school) could have played with anyone in the state. Either you have the horses or you don't. Most teams, even the 6-a power-houses only play 15-17 players for most of the game. IMO!

 

 

It's a point I've brought up that some are not letting sink in. The 1a Beechwood team that just beat CovCath this past Thursday [although shouldve/couldve been beaten] would better every 6a team up here. Classification has little to do with it.

You kind of miss one very important point: when you have 1200 boys to find 15-17 players vs 300 to find 15-17 players, the odds are pretty good that the 1200 boy school is going to produce a better group of 15-17 players 9 years out of 10.

But they get to choose their 15-17 out of say...100 or more players. 1 and 2-A schools only get maybe 40 to 50 in a big year.

Hey, I don't disagree one bit. There is no doubt that the bigger school have a larger pool to pull from but if you have 12-15 hosses it doesn't matter if you are 1-a or 6-a and anything in between. If you are a 4-a school and the population consists of non-athletic country boys who want hunt and fish rather than play football then the pool you get to chose from is no different than a 1-a or 2-a school. Everyone gives McCreary grief because we play some 1-a and 2-a schools (we try to schedule the tougher ones in the area) but we have somewhere around 100 male students who are even a little interested in athletics and most of them think they are gertting a scholarship to UK to play B-ball (even if they will never be over 5'8" tall). These circumstances puts our football team in a different class opportunity wise. You play people you can play with. it would do our program no good what-so-ever to schedule our non-distric games with Southwestern, Boyle Co, Whitley Co ect... and get pounded week in and week out we would just run our program in the ground. Remember we don't have the tradition as a lot of these schools. We are trying to build that tradition as we try to build the program!

Sorry but your wrong. Was Danville playing Trinity and X during those years? Probably not, because when Danvilles ones would get tired, (and they would) the Trinity and X's of this universe would put in another fresh group that I am not going to call their 2's, I prefer to say they have their 1A's and 1B's. I see where you are coming from. However, when I go to the playoffs and watch St-X and Trinity play they usually play 14-17 players about 90% of the time so in my opinion there isn't that much difference. You are going to play your best athletes no matter what size school you have! IMHO!
