I have first hand info on Isler's injury and he will be available for the start of the basketball season. His injury will keep him out only 2 to 5 weeks as it is a minor hairline fracture of the fibula, the small bone in the leg. And to be honest, there is some question as to whether it is really a fracture or just a bone bruise. They will evaluate it in two weeks and he could be good to go at that point.

Covington Catholic is going to have to rebuild. They are not ready to compete for a region championship. They lost 6 very good seniors and one of their best juniors. Loosing your top 7 players is not easy to recover from.

 

Coach L will do a good job but does not have the talent to compete this year.

From what I saw last year, they relied on Maile too much. He's talented, but what I saw was not what Covington Catholic basketball has been about for the past 9 seasons under Mike Listerman.

 

Like I mentioned earlier, I have a hard time believing that there aren't enough quality players to make a run at the regional title. I'd imagine that this team has busted their butts this offseason on the court & in the weightroom(s) and you'll see a lot of fresh faces who will surprise you.

I can assure you that Cov Cath has a great (and tough) offseason program, which is one of the reasons why they have the ability to "reload".

 

It is also one of the reasons why Coach Listerman prefers to start practice a week later than a lot of the other schools. You'll hear horror stories from St. Henry players about how they spend the 1st week of practice without a basketball. That's not the case at Covington Catholic.

9 Pauley

Matt Klien would be in the mix 7-9

I will say it again. You can not play Counts or Thelen at the 3 and compete in this region. Not going to happen. Counts, Thelen, Wellbrock and Isler are all power forwards. You can have two on the floor at a time. You can't change the fact that Thelen, Wellbrock and Isler are big men with heavy feet.

 

Could you imagine Counts or Thelen trying to guard Rico Johnson at Holmes, Steven McFarland at Boone, Steven Kowolonek at Highlands?

 

Coach Listerman will play some zone, but not a lot. With the line up that you are suggesting he would never be able to play any man.

 

Steven Wilson will be a guy that has to step up and play some three. He is athletic and would be much better on the perimeter.

 

Cov Cath is going to struggle some because of their lack of depth at the guard and wing positions.

Good opening game with Mason Co. on Dec 5... and even if you guys would go winless this year ( not a predictin, just saying...) STILL the best fans in the state!

Yes, I forgot about Wilson, and you are right, it sounds like they will lack depth at the guard position.
