An official in the Franklin County game Friday Night said that the receiver was allowed to reset himself as long as he did not encroach and was set for a second.?

I'm aware, and the side judge did not do anything when the WR pointed to him. On the fourth infraction the white waived the flag off and walked over and spoke to the side judge and then he started nodding his head when a WR from either team pointed to him, and there were not any more infractions.

 

Well, I don't think you quite know the story. Especially since you would have been on the opposite side of the field. Many guys don't nod their head, they just talk to them, and some give them a thumbs up. The flag was waived off b/c the ready for play signal had never been given yet. He was offside and it would have been the correct call. There weren't anymore infractions b/c they actually started lining up correctly.

Should have been at the Raceland/Fairview game last night, the line judge refused to tell WR's if they were on or not, and flagged several on both teams for lining up in the neutral zone, until the white hat told him to tell them if they were on or not. Amazing.

I think this is what they are saying the official was not doing! i don't think anyone wants the officials to tell the players where to line up. But they do need to respond when a player says "I am on" to let them know they are ok. I think they were saying that this ref would not respond and then he would throw a flag. That definately makes no since for an official to do that!IMHO

I don't want to argue with you, I will concede that you are correct.

 

I have watched to tape, it is fine. I know you all take a lot of flack, but sometimes an official is just wrong, obviously not in this case, but sometimes it happens.

Ram, I just wanted to let you know that your face shield on your helmet is Illegall. That is an unsportsmanlike penalty for failure to wear the proper equiptment. All face shields shall be clear in color with no tint. 15 yard penalty on the kick off. Or I could just ask you to correct the problem before the kick off.:lol::lol::lol:

In reality, if a wideout tells the wing official that he is supposed to be on, and gets pretty close, we're probably not going to split hairs.

:laugh:Your killing me. But, in all honesty when I played, all our starting OL had tented shields, looked pretty intimidating coming to the line.

My gut tells me that all the folks on here wanting more fouls called and fouls every time a violation happens would be the same folks to complain that there were too many flags thrown in a football game. The truth is the more your throw the lower you go, period. Thankfully, it's far easier to have and employ common sense on the field than it is in an online forum where the technical, thinking technically, and looking for technicalities rule.

As long as he doesn't simulate the snap and resets for 1 second then no, it's not. You see this often if a TE goes in motion. The wideout will then step up to the line in order to reach the 7 mandatory players on the line. So, to answer your question as described, the answer is no.

How do you know refused to tell them they were onside? How do you know the white hat told them if they were or not? Officials are not supposed to do tell them if they are onside or not. They are supposed to point to their leg to let them know were the line is and let them line up.

 

It is something that officials do when the wideout lines up. He will usually ask the LJ or the LSMN if he is ok or he will inform them that he is off the line. It is something that the official needs to know so that he/she can signal to the referee if they are off the line. It is a common understanding in football that benefits both official and player. They are not "supposed" to point at their leg. It's not the officials job to line the kid up, only after he is lined up will most officials inform the player if he is ok.

What I got out of the Raceland/Fairview game was the wideout was asking the line judge if he was ok. Then he would bend at the waist to far and that was the call when the offsides was called.
