Well, I don't think you quite know the story. Especially since you would have been on the opposite side of the field. Many guys don't nod their head, they just talk to them, and some give them a thumbs up. The flag was waived off b/c the ready for play signal had never been given yet. He was offside and it would have been the correct call. There weren't anymore infractions b/c they actually started lining up correctly.

Ram How do you know refused to tell them they were onside? How do you know the white hat told them if they were or not? Officials are not supposed to do tell them if they are onside or not. They are supposed to point to their leg to let them know were the line is and let them line up.

Being a football official and former 8 yr baseball umpire I always tried to go the extra mile to help the kids. I have done extra innings many times for nothing. People always try to take advantage of the situation. These guys do get paid but its nothing special. By the time you put in all extra training and time it ends up being a $10 an hour gig. Thats why I don't call baseball anymore. You also have to consider liability issues. If that game was scheduled for 5 and you played longer that could come back on you if someone gets hurt. Mom says that game was only supposed to be 5 innings my boy wouldn't have got hurt if they stopped the game when they were supposed to.

Then you have to sanction every umpire in the state......I umpired for 8 years and I don't recall umpiring with anybody that doesn't do this..... Some of the best umpires(that have called state tournaments) I called with went from knees to the belt and would give you a little on the corners.....thats a square zone.....
