Of course no one knows what the Reds Payroll will be next year, but let's have a little fun. I believe it's also going to be hard to predict what the Team's personal will look like as well.

 

What we do know is...the Reds need a catcher, leadoff hitter, SS, and another RH power bat. If I were GM what would I try and do? Let's keep in mind, you do have to give up some talent to get talent.

 

I really Like Arroyo and how he's turned his season around, but...I would send Arroyo and Brandon Phillips to the Yanks for Xavier Nady and a prospect. The yanks and especially Girardi have had it with Cano and wouldn't they love throwing Bronson against the Red Sox? I would then go after free agent Orlando Hudson to play 2b. As far a SS and C, I'm just not sure right now. Is Gonzo going to be healthy and even if he is, will he be the answer? As of now I would say Hanigan is the opening day starter behind the plate, would like to see Wilkin Castillo get a start or two behind the plate. Or could the trade with Texas for Salty still be on the table, or is Homer damaged goods?

 

 

Young players who may get a good shot to make the Team.

 

OF- Drew Stubbs- will be 24 when season starts. Will get a good hard look in the spring.

 

1B- Yonder Alonzo- will be 22 when season starts. Unless he just has a monster spring, I believe he may be a year away.

 

SS- I really like both Chris Valaika who is 23 and Todd Fraizer who is 22. I would hope one if not both get a good look next spring. Probably a year away though.

I believe there's only two minor league Teams still playing, and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is one of them. That's the Yanks AAA affiliation by the way.

If you're going to trade away Bronson & Phillips in the same deal, you better get a lot more talent than Xavier Nady and a minor leaguer. And we'd be better off putting Hairston, Keppinger or Castillo at 2nd than Orlando Hudson. Phillips has more range than Hudson, and a ton more pop in his bat. I don't see how Hudson would be an improvement at all?

I wouldn't consider trading Nady straight-up for Arroyo or Phillips. Especially Phillips. And I'm not sure Nady is doing anything but having a career year. The back of his baseball card tells me he's not that much better a hitter than Arroyo. Nady's a mediocre MLB player having his best year.

Yes, I'm well aware that Hudson won the gold glove. I'm also well aware that gold gloves, much like saves, are tremendously overrated in baseball.

 

Brandon Phillips was a gold glove contender as well. I think we have plenty of guys on the roster (see Keppinger, Hairston, Alex Gonzalez, Freel, maybe even W. Castillo) who are capable 2nd baseman. And that's assuming we get rid of Brandon Phillips, which I doubt will happen.

Sign Rocco Baldelli to play CF and then trade E-5 and someone else for a big time bat in LF, 3B, or 1B. Move Votto to LF depending on where they can get a big time bat. Alonzo plays either 1B or 3B.

The range is about the same, as is their overall D. I will take Hudson's .282 average over Phillips .262 and his .346 OBP over BP's .308 anytime. And the fact that he's a switch hitter adds to his value. So to say no improvement at all is just false.
