September 18, 200817 yr Sign Rocco Baldelli to play CF and then trade E-5 and someone else for a big time bat in LF, 3B, or 1B. Move Votto to LF depending on where they can get a big time bat. Alonzo plays either 1B or 3B. Baldelli is an injury waiting to happen, and I'm not sold that he'd be an upgrade in CF over whoever else we put out there (unless it's freakin' Patterson). I don't see Yonder Alonso in the plans for '09.
September 18, 200817 yr If you're going to go after Baldelli, you might as well keep looking, because you'll need somebody to step in for him when he goes on the DL for six months at a time. Small market teams like we say the Reds are have to take chances on a guy like that. I would take Carl Crawford instead he can opt out of his contract at the end of this year.

September 18, 200817 yr I would address the catching issues but that won't happen in the FA market. They would have to make a trade to make an upgrade there and I don't really see that happening.

Only if you're getting him for the league minimum. You're talking about a guy who's played all of 147 games over the last three years. Too freakin' risky.
September 18, 200817 yr That's why they are bringing back Corey Patterson. :sssh: We don't want Dusty to hear you and get any ideas.

I don't see him getting much more than that. I think its worth the risk and you can have Dickerson to fall back on. I think a platoon with them 2 would be nice as well.
September 18, 200817 yr As long as Corey continues to mow his lawn and date Dusty's daughter, you've got him Somebody needs to get into Patterson's safe deposit box and burn those pics of Dusty hanging out with those college girls.

September 18, 200817 yr The Reds thought the same thing about Ryan Dempster when they released him. How did that turn out? It was still the smart move at the time.
September 18, 200817 yr The Reds are looking to add another RH power hitter, not get rid of. Addition by subtraction. Hes just not getting it done and is brutal in the field. Deal him and whoever else it takes to get a big time bat. Votto and Bruce will both improve their power #'s next year.
