The last three years he has been a very productive player. He did undergo Tommy John surgery a few years back, but has bounced back nicely. His numbers the last couple of years aren't that far off from Bay's.

2007 Bay BA .247 HR 21 RBI 84 SO 141

2007 Nady BA.278 HR 20 RBI 72 SO 101

2008 Bay BA .282 HR 30 RBI 98 SO 129

2008 Nady BA.300 HR 24 RBI 90 SO 100

Bay had a nagging knee injury in 2007 that he played through ... it obviously affected his production.

Like I said before, it's not always about going after guys like Holliday, and Vlad. Heck why not throw in Manny? This isn't a fantasy Team, the Reds have to be "realistic" and go after guys they can afford without breaking the bank. If the Reds could land someone like Nady for 3 mill, or Bay for 6 mill, I go with Nady all day. Oh, and that's 3mill they still have for other needs.
Bay is under contract for $7.5M next season. The Red Sox know they have him cheap next year, and having given up Manny Ramirez to get him, they aren't going to give him away to anybody.

Nady is eligible for arbitration. Given the year he has had, chances are he won't come any cheaper than Bay next season.
