A play at the plate between players, during the Championship game. It was a bump, between a Coach from Lawrence County and an Umpire.

I was surprised to see, the amount of games the Coach received, for the incident.

^ I was very suprised, too. That is why I started this thread......to see if anyone else was as suprised as I was.

What was the punishment?

Coach was given a 7 game suspension to start next season. All coaches (al sports) have to take a class and pass a test on sportsmanship (I believe) before 2009 season starts.

KHSAA PENALIZES LAWRENCE COUNTY: In addition to a loss on the football field Friday night, Lawrence County's baseball program took a hit this week when the KHSAA fined the school $1,000 and suspended assistant baseball coach Travis Feltner for the first seven games of the 2009 season for violation of the KHSAA's practice of sportsmanship policy.

The baseball program also was placed on probation for one year and because of what the KHSAA deemed a "lack of action" by school officials, the KHSAA also placed the entire athletic program on probation for the 2008-09 school year.

Thank you for linking that information. I am a goof when it comes to computer knowledge.

What does that mean to be put on probation by KHSAA? Does that mean they are not eligible for post-season play?

I can see the seven game suspension for the Coach, but the rest seems a little over the top. Did PRP's catcher have to take any sportsmanship classes?

Do you guys really think this was a harsh punishment?

Probation just means "they're watching"...

Yes, why punish the entire school with probation and make the coaches of all sports take sportsmanship classes for one "heat of the moment" incident by a baseball coach arguing/standing up for his players? I agree that he shouldn't have bumped the umpire, but some of these punishments are over the top imo.

Are you sure that all coaches for all sports have to take this class?

The seven games is not a lot, IMO. $1,000 is not a lot, IMO. Probation is not a lot, IMO. Sportsmanship classes for the baseball staff is not a lot, IMO.

If anything, all coaches of all sports MAY be a bit much but definitely not outrageous, again IMO...

KHSAA has to set a precedent, this game was the state championship game, in front of thousands of fans and all the local media from Lexington and Louisville caught the argument on camera and it was seen by thousands more.

The official at home plate could have nipped all of it, had he warned the PRP catcher and coaching staff that further actions would not be tolerated. Jawing at an opposing player you just tagged in a close game and then slamming the ball down in the vicinity of the opposing player is unsportsmanlike and baiting IMO.

Well, the officials did a poor job in the management of the State Championship game as far as the sportmanship rules go. The KHSAA dropped the ball on the penalty that was handed out here also. Did the KHSAA hand out sanctions on the umpires for allowing unsportsman like conduct by the player or players of one of the two participating teams? Just another way for the "Queen" and her court to show they handle things differently when the spot light is on. Bad decision by the KHSAA in my opinion.
