I'll be going to the Russell-Boyd County game this weekend, so I won't be able to watch the coaching genius of one Leon Hart. I do think Ashland will win despite Hart, but won't be surprised if Pikeville wins.

Many would agree that a football team typically improves the most between week 1 and week 2 than any other “single” time over the season. Although it’s a bit early to examine stats between Pikeville and Ashland, I look for the Tomcats to come out strong for this next game. There were some bright spots in last Friday’s loss to a very solid Raceland team. Josh Alber pounded out some productive yardage to compliment a nice stable of running backs. I believe our O-line will benefit from the experience of their first game and become the key to Ashland’s eventual success. And, as stated before, it would be beneficial to involve Ryan Bonner in the game plan more. I’m sure the coaches will be tweaking things up a bit in preparation for Pikeville.

 

It appears Pikeville has a senior led backfield (at least by looking at their roster). The group of seniors for Ashland has logged success through their JFL and middle school days and will continue that achievement for their final year of high school football. The Raceland game is already in the history books…it’s as far removed from what is ahead as last year’s Thanksgiving dinner. Let’s put it far behind us.

 

I am really looking forward to seeing the Cats rebound this Friday against Pikeville.

I'm sure you guys will do just fine. Putnam Stadium has always been my favorite place to watch a ballgame. The administration at Ashland has done a good job of keeping it up over the years. The new entrance, concession stands, and restrooms they added a few years ago is a very nice addition, and from what I have read, the restoration job they have in the works will be very nice. I plan on donating a small amount of my little nest egg toward the cause. I have witnessed several great games, and great teams over the years at Putnam Stadium, and I look forward to more in the future. The Ashland fans are always very hospitable. You guys have a lot to be proud of.

I continue to struggle with the "class warfare" in everyone's messages. True, 5A schools typically do not lose to 1A schools, however, when you think of NKY football, I'm positive that being beaten by Beechwood or NewCath or Lloyd..........is not "disgraceful". We have to realize that some smaller schools are either already traditionally better or are building such a status in our area. Russell is 3A, but beating Ashland should not reflect negatively on Ashland because of their class distinction. Raceland has won 3 in a row at Ashland, is that really the end of Tomcat tradition? I mean, Raceland has had a lot of talent and have worked hard in the weight room. Should we really think that the apocylpse is near? Let's cheer our teams on and let the better team win and congratulate them.....period. If Ashland beats Raceland next year, the Rams will shake hands and there will be no excuse of, "well they are 5A". No, the answer will be, "We'll get them next year."

Josh Alber's knee is OK. He was back in practice yesterday.

 

Josh Salisbury seems OK too.
