Plants..my parents have a small green house. Get my plants from them...they sow the seed.

 

 

I actually ordered mine from Gurney's, because I wanted to make sure that I had sweet red peppers, not just bell peppers that were red. The plants were fairly big when I got them, they were healthy and bloomed all summer. But they didn't really bear any fruit until the end of August, and I'm not sure how they will even turn out. I don't understand why they took so long this time?

 

What about your parents' peppers?

Last year the deer probably ate two hundred of my tomatoes. This year we put up a fence made out of deer mesh we bought at Lowes. About $12.00 for a roll 7' tall and 100' long it has done a great job. We haven't done to good a job weeding, but have a good crop of tomatoes, beans, bannana peppers and jalopenos.

 

Will you leave this fence up, or is it something you will have to erect every year?

I believe they get their seed from Henry Fields. Mine have bloomed all summer too and are just now producing...I think it has alot to do with the weather. My parents peppers havn't done too well this summer. They live in EKY and have not gotten the rain that we have.

I was able to get some good stuff from mom and dad's garden during recent visits. The corn wasn't bad, but it was the earliest off the stalk. Tomatoes were good; the green peppers and banana peppers were excellent. Pretty darned good green beans.

Mom does some herbs that did not do well this season. The tomatoes around here rocked this season.

I'll take it down since it was so cheap. Just used the metal fence post you can drive into the ground and plastic ties. Like I said other than a mole we haven't had any animal problems this year.

my parents have a good size garden-- it does well every year. Brother has over 1 acre of sweet corn that is Great. Really good on the grill too.

KyTmcNcc you should think about setting up a rain barrel for your garden.

I think I will get another mess of beans befor the year is up.

:lol:Yeah, that's just as bad as the other.

5 tomato plants and they have been boffo. Have already made a few tomato pies this summer...good eating.

Got way more than I can handle. In 4 years of growing them, this year has been the best.

Eggplant going strong.

Banana peppers doing pretty solid, even thought I need to come up with some recipes for them.

Green peppers have done pretty good.

Cucumbers are doing so-so, I think I got the wrong kind and they are more like pickling cucumbers. Plus, I moved them to another part of the yard.

Zucchini did OK as did the squash but they petered out about 3 weeks ago.

I actually grew some sunflowers from seed and they did well. I harvested a few heads and baked them and spiced them up and they were not too bad.

 

I have a fenced in yard so the critters didn't bother them. I knew I had some rabbits but I planted a few marigolds around the garden. I thought I had read somewhere that merigolds will deter rabbits. No problems with rabbits however, I see them running through the yard. Matter of fact, I flipped over my portable fire pit and three little babies darted about the yard. Scared the crap out of me...pretty neat watching them though.

Tomatoes, peppers, and sweet corn all did nice.
