August 27, 200818 yr And he won't get much of a bounce following the Democratic convention. Not as much as he should. Plus the Republicans will get the final bounce with their convention. The Democrats are too divided with the Hillary issue, and try as hard as they will, they won't be able to unite enough to win in November. JMHO. And I have a feeling that Hillary, deep down in her soul, doesn't really care. I'm almost certain her husband doesn't either.

But a McCain win would be perfect for the Clinton's.
August 27, 200818 yr I could almost see Hillary running in 2012 even if BHO is elected. But a McCain win would be perfect for the Clinton's. If McCain wins this will be the best thing for Hillary. McCain will not run in 2012 because he will probably be in a nursing home and Hillary will be the front-runner. She should be the Democratic nomination this year but it is what it is. Obama will be history if he does not win this election.

Gore would have been a tough candidate if he had run this year. Nixon came back. The main concern with many people is Obama's lack of experience. 4 years from now he would have as much experience as Hillary did this year. (I don't give her any credit for her years as first lady).
August 27, 200818 yr Why would there be a bounce when we're still 2 days away from Obama speaking? That's when you will see a bounce.
August 27, 200818 yr Why would there be a bounce when we're still 2 days away from Obama speaking? That's when you will see a bounce. The bounce typically begins just prior to the convention as one candidate begins dominating the news. With both the Biden selection and the pre-convention publicity, Obama may still be clinging to his narrow lead. So far, this has not been a good week for Obama. With Bill Clinton supposedly planning not to attend Obama's acceptance speach and McCain poised to annunce his running mate on Friday or Saturday, Obama is going to have a difficult time getting much of a bounce.

Obama's strength is his presentation. I don't think you'll see the bounce until he gives his speech. Didn't I read that McCain's folks are preparing for upto a 16 pt bounce?

August 27, 200818 yr Obama's strength is his presentation. I don't think you'll see the bounce until he gives his speech. Didn't I read that McCain's folks are preparing for upto a 16 pt bounce? This is just good politics. If McCain's people raise expectations to 16 points, then the talking heads may agree that an 8 point bounce is a disappointment. I do not think a single speech after so many months of campaigning is going to sway large numbers of on the fence voters. Everybody is expecting Obama to do a great job reading his speech. So far, the convention has to be a disappointment for objective Democrats - with most of the buzz revolving around the Clintons instead of the Obamas.
August 27, 200818 yr Author Obama's strength is his presentation. I don't think you'll see the bounce until he gives his speech. Didn't I read that McCain's folks are preparing for upto a 16 pt bounce? So then you think he's all fluff and no substance and that his voters are to enamored with him to realize that? I have to agree with that.

I agree. Give him a teleprompter and the man is a magician at the mic. But put him in a debate or question and answer format where he has to answer serious questions off the cuff and he's all "Uh, uh, uh..." before answering anything. It's like he has to think what he's going to say on every single sentence. He's not sure of himself. I think this weakness will really hurt him in the upcoming debates.
August 27, 200818 yr I'm voting for candidate Y because I believe he can get some things done and I believe candidate x can't get anything done.
August 27, 200818 yr So then you think he's all fluff and no substance and that his voters are to enamored with him to realize that? I have to agree with that. No. Many/most voters have decided so there is not going to be much of a bounce. Any bounce that comes about will be an emotional response to his speech on Thursday.

I don't buy all of the "he's only good at reading a speech" stuff. Although, if I were a dyed-in-the-wool McCain guy, I'd use that line as well. Are we really blasting a guy because he thinks his responses through instead of going off-the-cuff? Is that what we want in the White House?
