Wow, that is a pretty blanket statement for someone who does not even know me. You couldn't be farther from the truth. I believe that is the government's job to help those who cannot help themselves. I believe that they are there to help lead the effort to change and fix the problems in America. I believe in the government because the government is "of the people, by the people, and for the people." The government is a vehicle in which we can all come together to assert the changes that need to be made in this great nation of ours.

Awesome, and those people are entitled to those beliefs. Everyone has there issues that they feel strongly about. Religion, Jesus, Allah, Health care, etc. My issues are Abortion/Sexual Rights, and LGBT Rights.

I am not NRA if that is what you are asking. I believe that people have the right to shotguns, rifles, and handguns. I don't like the idea of billy joe next door being able to walk into Wal-Mart and being able to buy a Uzi or AK-47. I think that we need stricter background checks for potential owners. I think safety classes should be mandatory, along with closing the gun show loop hole.

First off, you can't buy an AK or Uzi at Wal-Mart. Interesting that you brought up an AK, do you think people have no right to own these? How much stricter on background checks are you wanting? There is no gun show “loophole.” Since 1938, any person “engaged in the business of selling firearms” must register with the federal government. In 1968 all such persons were required to obtain a federal firearms license. Since 1998, dealers have been required to submit all prospective gun buyers to a National Instant Check System (NICS) background check conducted by the FBI or a state agency. This requirement applies at gun shows and all other locations, all of the time.

 

If you think they are both toward the middle on this issue, you haven't looked at their voting record.

I'd rather not take that chance. There are more than enough limits now, we don't need more. Gore's lies about global warming aren't a Constitutional right. What exactly are you calling rhetoric anyway?

I've never understood why Republicans want to cut funding for police officers and make it easier for criminals to get guns. My cousin's police union is backing Obama because they plan on restoring the COPS grants that put officers on the streets and schools when Clinton was in office. Bush got in office and those resources went overseas and police funding got cut. I'm curious to hear a Republican take on why it's OK to reduce funding for police officers yet make it easier for the criminals to get assault weapons.

 

It is the duty of the state or local governments to provide police protection, not the federal government. Check the US Constitution, nothing in about local police protection. If the feds would lower taxes the state and local governments then maybe could collect more state taxes, which would be better as it stays in state and does go off building "bridges to nowhere" or similiar projects.

 

The Court ruling was not about assault weapons, but handguns.
