August 22, 200818 yr I love this quote from Newton in the article at TCP... "Originally, we weren't really looking at Kentucky. We were looking at Louisville," Newton said. "We went down to Kentucky for that game, and it was a really good game, and we decided that Kentucky was a really nice place. We loved all the things that they were doing in Lexington. I never really had an order," he said. "I just really liked Kentucky." So much for the put-forth theory that UK choosing to not have this as the opener would hurt their recruiting. Mitch has to be smiling when he reads that quote.

August 22, 200818 yr My question is: Why didn't he do camps and combines? The right camps and combines are forums to improve your fundamentals and get better. The players I know who did not do camps or combines were hiding a weakness. I have no idea...Maybe he thought he didn't need to go that route to get noticed..I don't know. Regardless of the ranking(s), we have two of the top qb's in the 09 class already committed...:ylsuper:

The players I know who did not do camps or combines were hiding a weakness. The bigtime players do not go to these camps & combines to improve fundamentals. They do it to get exposure. If you have all the offers you are interested in, why bother? When players attend the NIKE combine, it is not designed to work on fundamentals but to get more exposure.

August 22, 200818 yr Newton has stated that he did not attend the combines because he was happy with the offers that he already had on the table and did not see a reason to go.

August 22, 200818 yr More important than the stars to me was what the Herald-Leader reported...he chose UK over Florida, Illinois and Clemson. All high profile schools. If they wanted him, then he can definitely help UK. My questions is how hard were those schools recruiting him?

When players attend the NIKE combine, it is not designed to work on fundamentals but to get more exposure. Are you saying that big time players do not need to work on fundamentals and get better? The coaching and instruction at these camps are from college coaches who can often times offer better instruction than they previously have had. Sure the kids are looking for exposure, but if they do have aspirations to play at the highest level, they better be interested in improving their skills and taking instruction from someone who probably has more to offer than they have experienced previously.
