This game determines the NKY top 10 ranking from now (well, after the scrimmage) until the end of the season. It's big school versus little school. Bragging rights are determined tonight. :flame:

I had a friend that was there and said NCC had the upper hand but I don't know the final score. The last I heard it was NCC by two touchdowns.

I'll give my hand at it. NewCath's O dominated this scrimmage. The score was only 20-7 in a 3 quarter game situation, but it really wasn't that close of a game.

 

The first drive of the game saw NewCath march right down the field. Kues hit about 4 different receivers and Kelly had a couple of nice runs. On 1st and goal NewCath threw a hitch to the corner of the end zone that was dropped. Then a false start penalty was followed by another false start. On the next plays, Kues hit Parr on a bubble screen for a 14 yard or so TD.

 

Dixie got the ball but couldn't do much. Their passing game is definitely in flux. #24, and I hope that he is ok after coming out of the game late, is a very hard runner, but they will need some sort of passing game to open up their offense. Their O-Line is very inexperienced, I would after watching this game.

 

NewCath scored again to open the second quarter on a very impressive run by Kelly. NewCath kicked off, and as was the story for the first half (and to be expected w/ the first game of live kicking) Dixie ripped off a huge return. However, they couldn't do anything with it. NewCath then got the ball on a punt. A long pass from Kues to Daunt got the ball down to the 20, but a big loss on a screen pass stalled the drive. Dixie got the ball back with a couple of minutes to go in the half from about their 30. They executed a perfect two minute offense and scored just before half.

 

To start the second half Dixie received the ball and punted. NewCath then went on a 6 minute drive aided by 3 false starts and a hold. The final score came on a plunge by Kelly from about 1 yard out.

 

Observations: It's hard to read Dixie on scrimmages due to their preseason routine. I'll judge Dixie around week 6, however, at this point Dixie has a lot of work to do on tackling. They go up against the Beechies and their stud RB, they gotta wrap up.

 

NewCath's running game was very solid. Kues ripped off numerous big runs, as it appeared that Dixie keyed on Kelly after he had a couple of big gains. Kues made some nice throws, he's still getting comfortable w/ his receivers.

 

Parr is going to be a very good wide receiver once he gets comfortable in his routes and coming back to the ball. Once he catches the ball he has very nice moves and turned one screen into a TD and another into a 40 yard reception.

 

Nate Rawe knows no fear. He was the smallest player on the field but had 2 very nice runs on jet sweeps and a huge punt return.

 

Escalante has good awareness in the secondary. He's going to be key in gettin the inexperienced back half together.

 

NewCath's O-Line has to learn to concentrate. Way too many false starts, holds, and high snaps. That was the achilles heel of last years team and it needs to be ironed out now. The players themselves, however, appear very fit. They have a very impressive line and once they get focused....watch out.

Baby Breds !!!

Nice to see Ben Parr playing well at WR as he is a nice athlete and very versatile. Breds look to be very tough this season. Kues seems to be playing like a Veteran and with the Kelly boys in the backfield I see them in Louisville come December.

 

The good news for the Breds in all of this was that they did pretty well on offense w/out starting right tackle Cox. This meant that they had to go both ways more than they have in the past. That is the one difference b/n this year's NewCath team and last's, besides the size of their middle linebackers (who are both very big, like Tyler Bardo/Kallendorf big), that they have a lot more guys going both ways. A lot of sophomores saw action last night and a lot of players were rotated to give the coaches a look to see who can help add depth. Also good news, Chris Kelly is back. He had been out w/ an injury but was cleared to practice yesterday. He'll add a breather at RB, and I look to see be in the rotation, if not starting, at linebacker against SK.
