If you were a veteran that could help take a team to the next level, why would you come to the Reds when there are so many more teams that are closer? Are these the same strong young core that have not been able to feel out their roles the past couple of seasons (NOT including the pitching of Volquez, Cueto)? Didn't Krivisky come over from the Twins with the reputation as knowing what he was doing in making a small market team a continued success?

Krivsky came over with a great resume as an assistant GM, and the things he did well at Minnesota, he did well here. His problem was that experience didn't translate well when it came to calling ALL the shots. Dan O' had the same problems. On the flip side both of those guys did what they were known for in stocking the minors and now the big league club with a young core under team control for a while. If you are going to operate at a payroll under 100 million that's critical. Jockety has what he needs to make this team a winner. Not sure how you can compare that to the past 8 years...

Outside of Dunn, I had zero love for any that you mentioned...

I don't either and simply are nervous that all these great names we are hearing is not much different than all we heard about Kearns, Lopez, E-5, Larson, etc, etc. I do agree that Votto, Volquez and Cueto is a good young nucleus, but they need much, much more than just 3. Bruce, I think he has to show that he can hit LHers before he makes that step to the next level. Does his struggle since his first 3 weeks, cause for concern?
August 21, 200818 yr I have no problem with what the Reds' brass did. I'm split on how to take it though. On one hand, I see it as a front office reassuring the fan base to be patient and that Rome wasn't built in a day. On the other hand, I also see it as a way for a while to appease an unrealistic and borderline crazy fan base until the first part has a chance to take effect. I'm sure almost every MLB team has done something like this at one time or another
