The Rams showed some glimpses of what might be possible. But as usual, Coach Hoof didn't open the play book very wide for a scrimmage game.

I thought for a scrimmage Raceland played pretty well. There are still some improvements to be made.

:thumb: Fro what I heard after talking to one that was there last night is that the Rams have a long way to go. They looked decent but far, very far from impressive. Goes w/o saying that if they don't awaken by next Friday then it is 0-1 for the Rams.

Raceland looked decent in this one. Morgan is not a top tier team, and still held the Raceland O in check on a couple of drives.

 

Ashland/Raceland game should be a close one.

I have said several times that this team has the potential to be the best team in Raceland history, but like I said in another thread that can only be determined after the season is over. They do have the potential, but if they want that title they will have to execute and prove it.

 

The first "real" test comes Friday in Putnam Stadium. The grid was just intensified warmup (LOL).:thumb:

The biggest thing they get is a chance to work on some things against someone other than the scout team. You get stale after going against your own teammates after so long.

 

Granted Morgan co. isn't a powerhouse, but they still had a few nice athletes, and the Rams got to polish up a few things, as well as see some other areas needed for improvement against stronger opponents.

To begin with, this was the EKC Grid, the EKC makes the match ups. Secondly, it was a scrimmage, and you only get out of it, what you would normally get from a scrimmage.

 

As for brass tacks, I think Raceland got a good look at some young players that the coaches thought might be able to contribute this season. I think most of them rose to the occasion. There where several young RB that played very well. I feel that, God forbid, we have the injury problems that we had last year, we would be much better off this season.

 

For Morgan County, I think they got to see some offense that they would not normally see and they got to see how they would match up with it. I likewise think they got to see a good defense and they got see how they would do against it.

 

The down side: Raceland did not get to runs it's normal, full level, offense. Raceland ran a vanilla version, but did get to work on certain aspects. Morgan County did not see an offense that they will see week in and week out. They did not get to practice against a power run team, which would have likely benefited them more.

 

That's my best answer.
