Alot of Greenup fans have been very high on their team and pegging them a sleeper in 4A. From what I gather this one got ugly as Ironton had like 7 TD's to 0 advantage. Also heard the Craft kid that Greenup has been expecting big things from went down with an injury... can anyone fill in the gaps for us on what happened?

Craft going down would be a shame. Scores in a scrimmage mean nothing and tell you even less about a team and how they perform. Coaches go into most scrimmages with a list of things to work on and kids to look at. I hope Greenup can perform (I'm not a Greenup fan but like to see all the area schools do well). They have some decent numbers out. They always have good kids in the school but getting them out is a real struggle.

I hope that GCHS can rebound and come back with their program going in the right direction and I believe that they will.

The post above is correct, a scrimmage is just that.....a scrimmage. Coaches use kids in different situations and try different things. A scrimmage usually goes 10 plays at a time for each offense for a while and then will work on special teams, sometimes all passing for a while, sometimes all running plays then go to regular game type situation.

:thumb: Ironton certainly was not going to be down for long. Coach Lutz came back and it imo was no question as to if they would be back to their usual power but when.

You were told incorrectly. Craft is fine.

Was it a stinger then? He was down for a good 10 minutes, and he never came back. you usually don't go down that long with a shoulder injury and it be nothing. Glad to hear though that it is nothing.

Crafts injury happened on the last play of the first half, they had seen enough and no need to take a chance after that. He was throwing on the sideline later so it couldn't have been very bad. Mason looked pretty good he may be the best back-up in the area, both sides of the river. Ironton looked to be back to Lutz standards, I don't know where he gets them but they are very big and very fast.

All over southern Ohio. Last year when Lutz returned, a ton of players transferred to Ironton, but had to sit out the year. Now they are eligible and are very good. It would basically be like every good player form BC, Ashland, Raceland, and GC all transferring to Russell, since Russell and Ironton are about the same size. Ever notice that Ironton is always good, but every other school surrounding it is usually terrible?

Ironton has the same players they had last year. They went 0-5 and then won 5 in a row. The difference is hard work and determination. Their players work hard in the off season and the coaches expect it or they don't play. I know this to be fact because I am friends with some of the coaches and played for one of them while he was at GC. It's scary to think how good Coach Lutz is and what he expects from his coaches and players.

So none of those guys on the team were at St. Joe's at some point last year? I know this to be 100% fact. I will not name kids names on this website, but if you want to compare the rosters go ahead. A real telling tale would be to compare the 8th and 9th grade rosters to the sophmore and 9th grade rosters this year. This is when most kids transfer to their school of choice. This is ok in Ohio, and personally I think it should be okay in Kentucky to transfer for sports reasons. This is why in Lawrence Co, there is only 1 great team, and the other 5 or 6 can't beat Russell's JV squad on a bad year.

Let's reel this back in and discuss the Greenup/Ironton Scrimmage. If you'd like to discuss the makeup of teams, etc. then start a thread to that effect.
