Realizing that basing a prediction of a real game off of each team's first scrimmage is dangerous, I think HHS wins and its over early. Not enough size nor speed for Ryle to compete with the Birds many , many weapons. Its going to be a tough introduction to varsity football as "the man" for young Mr. Hempel.

On a side note, Ryle's field looks great so far.

If Tate is the 6'7" kid he has screws in his foot and will be down for another few weeks.

 

Isler looked good, not great. Big and strong but not real fast. He throws a nice ball but sometimes he zeros in on who he wants to throw it to and that is where the ball goes. I don't know if many KY teams will be able to pressure Isler with the beef up front but I think that is what needs to be done.

I think you'll see them trying to bring the pressure off the Corner. Its going to be tough to bring pressure up the middle.

Just curious, does anybody know how the CCH and Ryle freshman looked?

 

I believe CovCath won the freshman scrimmage and Ryle won the JV portion.

Ryle went up 7-0 on first 10 plays.

Isler threw bad INT that would have been a TD on CCH's first 10.(14-0)

Then in game situations Ryle drove and scored again.(21-0)

CCH scored right before half (21-7).

Ryle fumbled punt deep in their own territory, but Brossart told officials to let them keep it. (21-14)

CCH scored on 2 early possessions of 2nd half. (21-28)

Ryle scored on the last drive of the game. (28-28)- FINAL

 

Ryle will be an average 6A team and Highlands will handle them.

CCH better get tougher on D or every game will be a shootout, and they will not beat Highlands.

I agree. There just really isn't a good way to prepare for a much quicker opponent because you can't really simulate it in your own practices. Highland's speed is going to surprise Ryle. The key in my mind is not so much how badly Ryle gets beat, but that they don't implode mentally during or afterwards as a result of it.

That is what I heard, similar to last year. It sounds like in real game format though CCH won 21-7.

 

I think CCH is going to get off to a better start this year, and should be a solid team by mid-year.

 

Just correcting 2 pieces of bad info. Ryle won the scrimmage last year, which was played in a game format including special teams (special teams were not live this year), and Cov's only moment of glory was a KO return for touch. Cov could not move the ball last year and I'm sure they had lots of total offense yesterday. In 3 quarters of semi-real format this year, it was 21-13 Cov. Cov looks much improved. Ryle's O looks much improved over last year, but their D was much worse.

I was not referring to last years scrimmage. As I recall, CCH was awful in last years scrimmage.

When I said similar to last year, I was referring to the poster who said 10 down formats are not conducive to CCH scoring because they are a 3-4 yards and a cloud of dust team, grind it out. That is what is similar to last year.

As I have said numerous times, CCH has a long way to go before they can challenge Highlands this year. But, they seem to be off to a better start.
