Any news on this? I heard they were playing the entire scrimmage in regular game format and the score at halftime was 7 to 7.

It was a combination of 10 on 10 and a lot of game situation. Ryle jumped out 2 touchdowns to zero in 10 and 10, CCH came back and scored 3 touchdowns in game situation and I believe Ryle scored a touchdown to end the scrimmage in game situation to make the scrimmage 3 touchdowns all.

In CCH's defense, 10 plays is not conducive to scoring. They will be a grind it out team getting 3 to 4 per pop.

 

However, with that said I thought the defense struggled somewhat early. This is not a big Ryle team. Its probably one of their smaller teams actually yet they did a good job early of putting drives together. #8 for Ryle is a tough runner.

 

Deters ran well. The o-line did pretty well. Pat Van Sant will be the playmaker this year. If you don't get him at the LOS, you're in trouble. He is fast and runs nice routes and Coach B had what appeared to be "lets get the ball to Pat" plays. His one-handed catch down the left sideline was quite impressive.

 

Decent show at best for the Colonels. You never know what the goal of a scrimmage is for a particular team so its hard to judge by outcomes.

 

Hempel will be a solid qb for Ryle this year and in 09 and '10.

The one-on-one matchup of the season in NKY will be Van Sant going against Austin Collinsworth.

Some observations, hopefully not biased in any way. Both teams looked decent. The one receiver for CovCath, I assume VanSant from the previous post, is a very good athlete and playmaker, and was impressive. I guess the equivalent of the 1st quarter was 10 and 10 with Ryle scoring 2 TD's, one on a pick by #44 (not sure who it was) that was blown dead on the way to the house and the second on a long run, probably 50 yards, by Kiefer Eubank. It was 7-7 in the second and third quarters. CovCath won the "fourth" quarter 14-7 with Ryle scoring very late. Ryle's O is much better looking than in the past. Ryle's D did not play well at all in the "fourth" quarter. CovCath's O-line looked big and did a nice job of controlling the line of scrimmage, especially in the "fourth" quarter. Conner Hempel, soph QB for Ryle looks very solid and poised. CovCath's QB did a good job. All in all, a good day for a scrimmage and I'm sure both teams learned a lot. I don't know how you would score it if that matters. Good news in the injury department - I did not see any that kept someone out of action. It would have been a very close game had it been played for keeps. Ryle looked like they had a lot of guys on the sideline in street clothes for the scrimmage. Good luck to both teams this year.

I thought Hempel looked great throwing the ball. It was almost all short passing but it reminded me of a Hal Mumme QB throwing perfect strikes and letting the receivers do the damage.

Haven't seen Hemple under center yet but he looked very promising on the diamond. Might be an even better baseball player. BTW, Ryle's new field looks great Luvthemraiders.

Yes, he did. Ryle's passing game was efficient. I am hoping we'll see a bit more downfield passing next week, with a few timing patterns. The only downfield throwing this week was basically "up for grab" type routes/throws which we saw a lot of last year. But it's still very, very early and lots of learning and developing still to take place. :thumb:

Ryle's undersized line is going to have a serious, serious handful against Highlands in their first game.

Yes, he did. Ryle's passing game was efficient. I am hoping we'll see a bit more downfield passing next week, with a few timing patterns. Game portion was 21-13 Cov. It looked like Ryle went for two after the last TD to practice a 2-point conversion. 10 x 10 was 2 Td's Ryle and none CovCath.

What about Travis Elliott, did he play in the scrimmage today for Ryle??
