Dittos! Anyone willing to risk regular season "record boosters" for games that will make a team and players better gets my vote! Jeff Stowers.....!

With all due respect to Coach Fookes and her accomplishments, I take Stowers as the top coach in NKY as he has proven he wins with his own players and taken a program that was way down and brought it back up and kept it there.

There is no comparrison from Coach Fookes to Coach Stowers. Coach Fookes can and DOES more with her players than anybody I have ever seen in the State of Kentucky.

With all due respect to Coach Fookes and her accomplishments, I take Stowers as the top coach in NKY as he has proven he wins with his own players and taken a program that was way down and brought it back up and kept it there.

 

The typical "With all due respect" and then slam her. Stowers is a great coach and a super nice guy, but, give some credit to the players. SK hasn't had much talent until the current senior class showed up as 8th graders and he was hand-picked to coach them. They'll miss last year's seniors, but once this very talented senior class graduates (Fig twins, Tolliver, and Smith)...let's see if he can keep the program at the same level or even close to it? I'm actually curious to see if he continues to coach once this class graduates.

 

With all due respect, until a NKY coach can sustain 20+ wins for 25yrs...Fookes is in a class all alone. Every school in NKY has, or has had, transfers or player's living out of district...so the "with her own player's" comment doesn't hold water. If Boone County had open enrollment like Kenton County...there would be total chaos on this message board

It doesn't hurt that she normally gets the top player from other programs nearly every season. Let's see - they've come from Conner, Highlands, Dixie, Ryle, Simon Kenton . . . . probably missed a few. She wins the award for having the most transfers from the most schools.

Well take a couple of minutes to view the FB, VB, Soccer, and even the Golf forums for both the boy's AND girl's. It is truly amazing what happens when a program is successful and has the "top" coach. I'll guarantee she's had just as many, or more, quit or transfer within the past 3-5 years than transferred in.

 

As I stated, every school has, or gets, transfers almost every year...it takes a heck of a coach to get them adjusted to such a demanding program and to make it gel.

I agree she has posted the record over the long haul, and that is the true test. It is interesting you mention McDonald as one who has a great start but has to sustain it to be mentioned in Fookes class. Apparently her school administration doesn't realize she is in this class as they pulled the rug out from under her this summer. Sometimes people don't know how good they have it until they switch ships.

Seriously, aren't most coaches hand picked to coach their respectve teams by a search committe. Do you know the circumstances that Coach Stowers came to Simon Kenton. We had a coach in place that left right before school started and took a job in Cincy. Jeff stepped up and took over and the rest is history. The only transfers we have had either moved from other states (she did not start and moved again) or moved into our district(from Williamstown and decided to concentrate on Volleyball). We play with the hand we are delt.

To compare Pat Summit has an 84% winning percentage. The question may be of those coaches with less than 300 wins who is on track to join this successful group of coaches?

We honestly have some very good coaches on the rise in NKY, but they all need to go through the fire of a few up-n-down seasons. They also need to go thru multiple senior classes to be able to learn how to coach different talent levels and mesh personalities. Then I personally feel they will be able to be considered "the best". Until then, they are very good up-n-coming coaches with a ton of promise that are guiding their programs in the right direction. It will also help to schedule and beat tough competition "every" season
