Under the Radar

I'd have to go with Kiernan for NewCath (I've heard he has great size and alot of potential just like his brother).

Also Clint Crawford for Highlands. He is as fast as any running back I have seen this year, he just wont be getting as much attention as he deserves because hes behind Josh Conner. He will be a big special teams player however.

Winston runs a 4:47-I don't think that is to slow for a DB. That is actually very good speed. He is also a very good student, which goes a long way with the recruiters-knowing he will be ready to go from day one.

He's quick but he's not that quick. That may be a hand-timed 40, I don't think that's his true number. A 4.47 is as fast as John Cole and we saw on the track last spring that he wasn't as fast as Cole. Very good kid and a nice player, I hope he does go D-1.

I think size and not speed might be the dealbreaker for Hines.

Not to make excuses ( which is what this may sound like, but it isn't) but rather to clarify, Hines has ran a consistent 4.50 (some were lower but none were higher) at every combine/camp he has been to this summer, which is quick enough to play on saturday at any lower DI and maybe it is enough for a big school to take a flier and try to make something with him.

Now here is where it may sound like an excuse but it really isn't. John Cole is one of the fastest hs kids I have seen on a track, but all I saw him do was show up and run his two events and leave all the while, Hines was Long and Triple jumping before those very same events, which will wear on you. PC was trying to win the meet and Winston is a team player.

But Cole is still faster just not as much as looked like during the track season.

I just felt compelled to explain that.

Ricky Bowling QB, Blake Fields LB/TE, Mark Clontz C, Jeremy Armfield OT maybe a true D 1 prospect all out of South Laurel.

I see your point to some extent but how many of those times were hand-timed vs. laser-timed. As for Cole you have to keep in mind that he was playing baseball and he didn't run track full time. Like you said he came to the meets, ran and won a state title without really practicing all year. Winston is quick but his size will probably be enough to negate whatever times he puts up. He'll make someone a very good D-Back, it just might not be a D-1 Team. I still think he should get All-State consideration. He's very, very good and I hope PC runs the table this year--especially since they aren't playing Somerset.

South Laurel has 4 D-1 prospects on their team this season? I saw no evidence of that last year.

Cole was still training through the Baseball season, wasn't he? Speaking of Cole, is he in the running for field time @ Vandy this year? With all the records he set in HS he would have been one for the list last year. It seems hard for kids from small schools to get looks, especially small schools in this basketball state.

Yeah, he's been doing well. There's a thread in the College Football Forum with a link to an article from the Tennesseean talking about him. Here's a link:

No, just Armfield, the other 3 are good, however their not D 1 prospects.

Hines is fast, a bit small around 5'9- 5'11 range 160- 175 lbs and he was one of the fastest at WKU senior Camp! I hope he get a chance to play D1 college football!

Winston is 5-11 and 172 lbs. Sees the hole well and explodes. He runs very hard and that, combined with his speed, makes him a very good running back.

Hopefuuly, he will have another great year and get some looks from the Division I Level. I feel he can handle up to 185-190 lbs. in College.

I think he can handle that much weight pretty easy and if he gets much bigger, he could make the move to safety and be a fast safety instead of an average speed corner in college.

Winston also has a 36 inch vertical and a heart the size of a football field.

I'll echo EKU's post and throw out a couple Belfry homer names.

Ivan Lee - I think he could translate to DE on the next level at somewhere like Eastern or Western.

Ryan Blackburn - Big strong lineman with the size to play at the next level. Not sure if he has the skill set to play major college football however. Would expect Eastern to at least take a look.

I understand why major colleges are reluctant to recruit Belfry. The competition level doesn't always provide a good indicator of talent.
