August 10, 200818 yr Jeff Drummond on catspause said that Morgan Newton was definately still in the mix. He didn't up and say it but the vibe from the thread based on Jeff's comments think the chances of us landing both Newton and Mossokowski are better than good. 2 4 star QB's in once class would be amazing. On Scout, Newton is a five star. I say we wind up reeling in Finch, Simpson, Jaz Reynolds, Jamal Patterson, a DE, and possibly Newton.
August 10, 200818 yr Author Jeff Drummond on catspause said that Morgan Newton was definately still in the mix. On Scout, Newton is a five star. I say we wind up reeling in Finch, Simpson, Jaz Reynolds, Jamal Patterson, a DE, and possibly Newton. I read the same thread and got the same vibe as you...Can you imagine a class for the Cats that includes Moss and Newton? We'll have to see how it plays out with Newton. I really like the Cats chances of adding Deuce Finch, Sam Simpson, and Ridge Wilson to the class...3 instate kids that the Cats should sign. Jamal Patterson is probably Stanford bound, but I would love for the Cats to add him to this class. Jaz Reynolds, Justin Isadore, Willie Jefferson, and Julius Forte are 4 out of state players that the Cats are in good position with and would be very nice additions to this class.
August 11, 200818 yr Simpson may be deciding this week and one feller doesn't think UK will be the choice. That is just the vibe he is getting...as with recruiting, that could change. One scout thinks Mossakowski sits as about a third round pick for baseball next year, which could move either way depending on his season next year.
August 11, 200818 yr All the more important to stay hot on Newton. Who else has offerred Simpson? He's most likely to go to UVA due to family connections, Chase Minnifield. He also has a trip planned to Alabama soon I believe. I think he wants to get out if town. He never struck me as a UK lean - ever.
August 11, 200818 yr Author It appears it will come down to Virginia and Kentucky for Simpson's services. Matt Jones says he is hearing he will announce this week for Kentucky. Others are saying he is going to UVA. UVA is a great school and you can't blame him if he picks the Cavs. Having said that I hope he chooses to stay home for college and play for the Cats. Matt Smith has been moved to Center from the DL, and supposely looks good there. If Simpson does choose UVA, the Cats should still be good to go at the center position with Jorge Gonzalez and Matt Smith both being underclassmen. Simpson is regarded as one of the top centers in the 09 class though and the Cats need to keep that kind of talent home. Will be interesting to see if he picks the Cats or Cavs this week...or pulls a surprise and goes with Bama or another SEC power.
August 11, 200818 yr If UK can get Simpson this week the class is really shaping up well. Ive not actually seen any of them, but just looking at the numbers it looks like it could be a very strong class for UK.
August 11, 200818 yr 2.74 Stars right now. Up from 2.50 last year Not that stars tell the whole story, but I like the trend.
August 11, 200818 yr Another poster is also reporting that Newton's dad said that Mossakowski committing to UK actually helps their chances of landing Morgan. Apparently he wants to join a strong group of QB's. I'm hearing Jaz and Isadore are soon to be on board.
August 11, 200818 yr Any of you St. X boys know if Duece is leaning UK? My money is on the Cats to land Duece.
August 11, 200818 yr Sam Simpson will be announcing his decision tomorrow at 2pm at the high school. If I were to guess I would say: 45% chance UK 40% Chance UVA 15% Chance Alabama
