The numbers show it worked out relatively well. The Reds were 45-44 with Griffey in the third spot in the order. They are 6-17 with anyone else hitting there. If the bottom line is wins, the Reds did much, much better with Jr in the 3rd spot than without him.
August 4, 200818 yr So they are 1 game over .500 and 6 - 17 in a SMALL SMALL sample size of someone filling in a role they are not used to. This is weak at best. I would take at least 5 guys on the current Reds roster to hit there instead of Griff.

August 4, 200818 yr Hey project those numbers without Jr in the 3 hole. I was intended to be smart - just throwing out the facts. Obviously the numbers aren't so good without. Bottom line: with Ken Griffey, Jr. batting third the Cincinnati Reds are a .500 team at best.

August 4, 200818 yr No offense but this could be one of the most meaningless stats we've had on here in a while. While he did OK since the AS break, overall he's not done much this year in the 3 hole or anywhere else.

August 4, 200818 yr Presently, they are 16 games back of the Cubs and 11 games back of the Brewers. True. If you figure at best a team could make up a game per week, then the Reds would still be in the wild card race. But let's not kid ourselves into thinking they would be making a run.
August 4, 200818 yr Author Jrs gone now. What's the point? Thought it was interesting that so many people clamored for him to be out of the 3 hole but the wins show that the Reds did best when he was there.
August 4, 200818 yr I was going to post this too lbbc. Say what you want, but it's been basically 25 games without Griff in the 3 slot, and the team is pathetic. This team just doesn't have a #3 hitter on it, plain and simple.
