New Starters in NKY?

Dylan Cottingham may be behind the plate on the varsity level every now and then to give Maile's knees a break, but he will surely be DH'd for, because honestly....the bat just isn't there yet. Other then him I can't see a sophomores even sniffing varsity time for The Colonels. The Junior class at Cov Cath is extremely talented, but often get overshadowed by the players in the grade in front of them, and with good reason. There are too many good juniors (Warning, Seimer, Martin, Schlagbaum, Stayton) to give any sophmore a legitimate chance at playing time.

Off topic a little, but I assure you that Liggett at Highlands is a better defensive catcher, very possibly better than anyone in NKY but Maile. :thumb:

Coop :thumb:I will tip my cap to you about the young HHS catcher, but I must tell you, if Maile wasn't playing for CovCath, Isler would be a stud of a catcher for CovCath. Not too many teams have two and if you count Matt, three very capable young men behind the plate. I have seen Isler put on the tools and he indeed would be a stud of a catcher! He indeed moves very well behind the plate and with the gun he has, not many would run on him!

Wow this is a bit of a stretch man. I have seen this kid catch and he is not mobile behind the plate, he does have a good arm but he is not a catcher. Apparently if he is the second best catcher in nky, dont you think Krumpelbeck would give Maile a couple breaks in those double header games or complete blowout games? I think anybody that is associated with CovCath is a stud to you, I can tolerate the talk about Maile or some of these players(even Isler, as a pitcher or hitter) but what you are saying about him as a catcher is a huge strectch. So anyway, as far as new starters go, I beleive NewCaths senior class will have some decent ballplayers that didnt see much time last year as juniors. Also Beechwood, HolyCross, and Highlands will have some good athletes. Right now Covcath returns the most on paper but as far as im concerned NewCath is the team to beat until somebody else wins that regional title.

Disagree, CovCath is the team to beat. Look at their talent. Newcath beat them in the finals and lost in the regular season last year, and I see them losing both this time around.

WOW thanks nicknack! I was worried because I got a PM from someone telling me what a poor CovCath fan I was..... You made me feel so good, that I just had to thank you..

BTW you do understand that back when Maile was a freshmen/sophomore I was getting all kind of grief when I was touting his ability to play. So I will stand on my comment on Ice being the catcher that I said he was!

nicknack1056 is correct that until NewCath gets knock off they're the team to beat. They return all their top producers and team leaders. There is some young talent that will step in and produce as well. Maile is the best but the 2 kelly brothers can play with anyone behind the plate.

When did you see Isler catch?

When did you see Isler catch?

FYI... Isler did catch the end of plenty of games. CCh just put Maille at first base. If you went to any of the games i'm sure you would have seen this. Isler is a good catcher, but i still like Liggett or Kelly as 2nd and 3rd.

FYI, Isler caught at the end of 5 to 7 games last year. I am not here to argue that he is the top two or three catchers in NKY. There are several reasons that he does not get much work behind the plate.First, Maile is the catcher. Second, he is a pitcher and if you know Coach Krumps then you know that he does not like to use catchers as pitchers or pitchers as catchers. If he did, then I think you would see Maile pitching also. Third, they need his size and glove at first.

The point that TOG was trying to get across was that Isler has the tools to be one of the top catchers in NKY. One other thing that is lost in most discussions about high school catchers is the ability to handle different pitchers from a mental standpoint and how to call a good game.

Did you ever consider Isler's knees maybe hurting and him not even wanting to help Maile out? It's a possibility :thumb:

Yeah that would make since considering Islers toughness. Just like in football against Highlands when he decided to slide in the middle of the field to avoid a hit.

You really don't know the kid, so you really probably shouldn't make fun of him. He is a good friend of my younger brothers and he didn't slide in the middle of the field to just avoid a hit. If you actually watched a football game, you'd know he takes plenty of hits. In fact he broke his leg taking a hit for his team. Think before you speak dear.
