Who is CovCath's ace pitcher, because i remember last year they were loaded on pitching and I thought that would be their best strength considering they didn't lose any pitching i don't think.

 

 

They did lose Danny Niehaus, and John Wehry, but to answer your question, IMO it is 1a Isler, then 1b Nutini, either IMO would be the ace on most HS teams in NKy.

Agreed. Followed by Krumme and Klein the pitching staff should reload with them losing their number 1/2 pitcher Niehaus, however you would like to look at it.

Hitting will not be a weakness for CovCath this season, nor will it be a lack of scoring runs, what the trouble just be might be is "D". Logan gives you great range and allows Krumps to put a senior who is a good baseball player in Left Field. Two of the Pitchers won't be DH for (Ice/Nutini) so you could if you want DH for Siemer. As I said I move RD to right and Klein to 3rd and that gives you a rather strong outfield, with either Nutini or VanSant in CF.

 

TOG you do realize your basically saying Siemer will take a returning starters spot. Or are you saying Siemer will be a spot starter?

there is another Kelly, Chris I believe is his 1st name, coming up at NCC that could make an impact next season. He'll be a soph. but should probably start on varsity.

 

I've seen Chris play from a very early age. He's a very blue-collar player with a Luke Maile sized heart. I wouldn't be suprised to see him break some records at NCC if he stays focused.

TOG, I really support your idea to put Siemer at 2nd and maybe play LaFever in the outfield or maybe have him just DH so he can bunt when the time is needed. I think overall Siemer would work out better for the colonels and make the team deeper with LaFever coming off of the bench when needed

I would start LaFever in LF and I would use VanSant as my DH, and play him in CF when Nutini pitches. VanSant is a very good hitter, and if can learn to get a better jump on the pitcher, he would/could be an outstanding base stealer, but he just doesn't IMO get a great jump on the batted balls to the outfield or the thrown ball to the plate.

 

BTW, if Mitch Shover decides to return to play baseball this season, (don't count him out is what I am hearing) he is my starting second baseman and lead off hitter.

I don't know if you made that up to stir stuff up, or your information is just inaccurate. Mitch has not spoken of returning and wouldn't due to the conditions within the baseball program. So I don't know where that came from but its not true.

That is fine, I am just clearing up that Mitch has not said ONE word of return. Anyone who says he is thinking about it, is wrong.

The only reason I would say he would not come back is because his true spot is the infield. He's a great Shortstop and great 2nd baseman and him looking at last years regional final 27-10 team (I think) he might find it hard to believe he could get either of the spots or even play unless he was to play the outfield. If not that he would 100% get the DH spot and be most likely the 2nd or 3rd best average hitter on the team.

Seimer will compete with Lafever for a starting position. Seimer has good range and makes very few errors. Although his bat is a conern I wouldn't make it a big one. Lafever, according to (http://preps.cincinnati.com/team.aspx?sp=102&tid=1123&y=2008&b=1) didn't even hit .300.

 

In addition, Holocher I believe led the team in errors and had one of the lowest batting averages around .200. Last years team had problems with their middle infield. This team was carried by Maile, Darner, Isler, and Nuntuni.

I agree with the Old Guy and his sources have always been credible given how close he is to the program.

 

It appears to me that if they want to contend for a state title why wouldnt you want another player who could help out? Every team needs to have as much talent as possilbe. In the past 2 years Cov Cath was favored to go to state and came up short both times. Although CCH24 pointed out that their record was 24-10, which is a great record, they still fell short.

Grat post! BTW, Holocher's fielding improved immensely towards the end of the HS season and over the summer. If this continues, he will do a nice job in the field next year:banana:
