Planned Parenthood....what is it's mission

Featured Replies

Does the good that Planned Parenthood supposedly do even begin to make up for the daily carnage?

Does anybody know Planned Parenthood's share of the 3,500 babies that are killed during an average day in this country?

The point is that PPFA is not a abortion mill like some would believe.

Is PPFA, a for profit company or a not for profit company?

796 daily killings by abortion certainly fits my idea of an abortion mill.

Does 287 PP clinics performing abortions sound like "very few" to anybody else?

Are there any other individual organizations that are resposible for more than 289,570 abortion deaths in 2006?

I don't know what the statistics are, but here in Louisville, Planned Parenthood does NOT perform abortions. I know of one clinic, but I think there are at least two, and neither are affiliated with Planned Parenthood.

Apparently PP clinics that perform abortions are not quite as rare as hens' teeth in other parts of the country. Planned Parenthood is the biggest provider of abortions in the country. More than 30% of its income is derived directly from abortions.

Non-profit.

I was behind a car with this bumper sticker earlier today.

In researching the beginnings of Planned Parenthood I read about the founder Margaret Sanger. I was shocked to find that she had an ulterior motive. It seems Ms. Sanger was a proponent of Negative eugenics. Negative eugenics is aimed at lowering fertility among the genetically disadvantaged. This includes abortions, sterilization, and other methods of family planning. At its inception the leader of Planned Parenthood put out a pamphlet that said.....

It is a vicious cycle; ignorance breeds poverty and poverty breeds ignorance. There is only one cure for both, and that is to stop breeding these things. Stop bringing to birth children whose inheritance cannot be one of health or intelligence. Stop bringing into the world children whose parents cannot provide for them. Herein lies the key of civilization. For upon the foundation of an enlightened and voluntary motherhood shall a future civilization emerge.
Seems she wanted to give natural selection a boost by not allowing the poor, sick or unintelligent from reproducing. I wonder how she determined who was healthy enough or smart enough to reproduce.

Looks like this is right in line with the founders thinking...

Abortion and the Black Community

On average, 1,452 black babies are aborted every day in the United States.

This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life. It has been estimated that since 1973 Black women have had about 10 million abortions. Michael Novak had calculated "Since the number of current living Blacks (in the U.S.) is 31 million, the missing 10 million represents an enormous loss, for without abortion, America's Black community would now number 41 million persons. It would be 35 percent larger than it is. Abortion has swept through the Black community like a scythe, cutting down every fourth member."

A highly significant 1993 Howard University study showed that African American women over age 50 were 4.7 times more likely to get breast cancer if they had had any abortions compared to women who had not had any abortions.

I know that those working in PP can't be held in contempt for what the founder of PP thought, her policies and thoughts on society. I am sure there are many good things that are accomplished at PP. I however think that the 250,000+ abortions a year are a blight on our society, but TJMO.

PP was founded by a woman that was a racist and a socialist, it seems as if the PP apple hasn't fallen very far from the Tree in all of these years.

You ought to come to the Lexington PP and check it out, I think you would be surprised.

I think that Margaret Sanger would be proud of what has become of the organization that she founded - although she might be disappointed that so many wealthy educated white women have had their babies aborted.

I am sure that I would be. As I said I am sure there are a lot of good things accomplished. I do not see PP as a black and white issue, many rail against everything PP says or does. PP does provide many services that our community needs. I wish PP would use its political clout to make adoption a more affordable and viable option for both the mother and prospective families. I come down on the right of center on abortion and would really like to see adoption be made a more realistic option.

I wonder how much an adoption referral nets PP versus an abortion. Based on the 120 to 1 abortion to adoption referral ratio, my guess is that the abortion business is more lucrative.

That ratio is what brought up my comments about adoption. I thought that was unreal...120 to 1, I agree there may some incentive for abortion over adoption.

If those are correct then a few people have dropped the ball major. Although I am not ready to discredit all the good that PPFA does just because of a few bad cases. I dare the American foster care system has horror stories like this, but we are in no hurry to tear down and rebuild that system.

The last time I checked the American foster care system wasn't murdering 250,000 babies a year either.

Planned Parenthood does much good in terms of education and pregnancy prevention. When we were expecting our first child (in the days before home pregnancy kits) my wife couldn't get an appointment for a few weeks to confirm the pregnancy. We went to Planned Parenthood to confirm the pregnancy. When the nurse gave us the news she was very non-committal until she saw how happy we were. Then she rejoiced with us.
