August 3, 200818 yr What is the mission of planned parenthood? I have read several things about PP and heard others. Does PP promote abortion, adoption, birth control or abstinence over another? I do want this to be a pro-life / pro-choice debate.
August 3, 200818 yr Just in case anybody is confused about Planned Parenthood's agenda, this is a very interesting editorial. Be sure to check out the Planned Parenthood-sponsored web site. Why Are You Paying For This? "The fact that this site even exists is only half as offensive as the fact that 99% of all parents in America don't know that this is being done to target their children," said the Lovely Bride to me on Wednesday of this last week. She is right. Because of our collective willingness as a society to do anything and everything we can - accept those things that we really have responsibility to do, we have created a world that has given birth to the website http://www.TakeCareDownThere.org. Worse yet YOU have funded this mess, and seemed unresolved to do anything about it. Planned Parenthood sends its thanks. In the event you would have not heard what the "TakeCare" website is all about let me give you a bit of an idea. Picture a fun, freewheeling website. A place of pastel colors, moveable design parts, promising to give you all the ins and outs on "the ins and outs." Designed to be so innocent looking from the moment it loads, parents would never have need to worry about there kids being able to find truly objectionable material.
August 3, 200818 yr Planned Parenthood is an abortion advocacy organization. They are a little more than that. Planned Parenthood is exactly what the name suggests. The goal is to provide women with knowledge about various forms of birth control and then provide the birth control itself. It also gives education about STD's, prevention and treatment. To say they advocate abortion, would be a stretch. To me that means they promote or encourage it. Yes, obviously abortions are performed there but it is at the request of the woman who wants it. I know that everyone has strong feelings about abortion, but it IS legal and it is one of services provided by planned parenthood. However, it is not the ONLY thing that they do. Preventing pregnancy in the first place is the main focus. It just doenst get the press that abortion does.
August 3, 200818 yr Here it is straight from http://www.plannedparenthood.org/about-us/about-us-90.htm Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is the nation’s leading women’s health care provider, educator, and advocate, serving women, men, teens, and families. For more than 90 years, we’ve done more than any other organization in the United States to improve women’s health and safety, prevent unintended pregnancies, and advance the right and ability of individuals and families to make informed and responsible choices. Planned Parenthood provides quality health care and services. Planned Parenthood’s 860 affiliate health centers, run by committed professional staff, provide the highest quality family planning and reproductive health care to women, men, and teens across the country. To meet the needs of the millions of Americans who rely on us, Planned Parenthood continues to expand — offering online health services, opening express clinics in shopping malls, and using mobile clinics to reach underserved communities. Planned Parenthood offers medically accurate information. Planned Parenthood educates young men and women, parents, and families about how to protect their health and the health of their loved ones. Parents know that the best foundation for their children’s success is a good education. When it comes to sexual health, Planned Parenthood provides what parents want for their children — medically accurate, comprehensive, and age-appropriate information to guide them through a lifetime of choices. Planned Parenthood advances effective health policies. Planned Parenthood works in Washington, DC, and in all 50 states to refocus the public dialogue on positive policies that address the real health priorities of individuals and families. Planned Parenthood’s nearly four million activists, supporters, and donors encourage legislators and other policymakers to protect the sexual and reproductive health and rights of all women and men. We also work with allies in other countries to help protect the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and men worldwide. Basically PPFA wants to educate and supply women with birth control methods so that abortions do not become necessary. They do provide abortion's there, but through proper education these abortion rates will come down.
August 3, 200818 yr If you are trying to decide if abortion is the right choice for you, you probably have many things to think about. Learning the facts about abortion may help you in making your decision. You may also want to learn more about parenting and adoption. Here is what they say on abortion.
August 3, 200818 yr Here is what they say on abortion. What do they say about transporting minors across state lines without parental notification to obtain abortions? What does Planned Parenthood say about informing the authorities in instances involving statutory rape that results in pregnancy? How about accepting donations to perform abortions on black babies only? Planned Parenthood's bread and butter is providing abortions. The more unwanted pregnancies occur, the more money the organization receives, and the more abortion mills that it can operate.

Unfortunately too many people focus on the abortion issue only and choose to vilify Planned Parenthood because of it. This gives us all the "big picture".

August 3, 200818 yr Do you have any facts to support these statements? The information is widely available for those who care to look for it. Here is a website that mentions several high profile cases involving Planned Parenthood and other abortion mill operators failing to report clear cases of statutory rape. More Reasons We Need Sarah's Law Planned Parenthood's response has been to oppose virtually all restrictions on abortion, including the Child Custody Protection Act and bans on partial birth abortions. Abortion and the Black Community On average, 1,452 black babies are aborted every day in the United States. This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life. It has been estimated that since 1973 Black women have had about 10 million abortions. Michael Novak had calculated "Since the number of current living Blacks (in the U.S.) is 31 million, the missing 10 million represents an enormous loss, for without abortion, America's Black community would now number 41 million persons. It would be 35 percent larger than it is. Abortion has swept through the Black community like a scythe, cutting down every fourth member." A highly significant 1993 Howard University study showed that African American women over age 50 were 4.7 times more likely to get breast cancer if they had had any abortions compared to women who had not had any abortions. Pastors Accuse Planned Parenthood for 'Genocide' on Blacks But an investigation, undertaken by students at the University of California at Los Angeles newspaper, The Advocate, revealed troubling responses from Planned Parenthood staffers when asked by an actor, posing as a “donor,” if he could earmark his contribution for abortions for “black babies” only. In one example, Autumn Kersey, vice president for marketing at Planned Parenthood of Idaho, is asked whether a donation can be specified “to help a minority group … like the black community, for example.” “Certainly,” Kersey says in a taped response in which she sounds genuinely encouraged by the offer. “If you wanted to designate that your gift be used to help an African-American woman in need, then we would certainly make sure the gift as earmarked for that purpose.” The caller responds: “Great, because I really faced trouble with affirmative action, and I don’t want my kids to be disadvantaged against black kids. I just had a baby; I want to put it in his name.” Kersey responds, “Absolutely.”
August 3, 200818 yr If those are correct then a few people have dropped the ball major. Although I am not ready to discredit all the good that PPFA does just because of a few bad cases. I dare the American foster care system has horror stories like this, but we are in no hurry to tear down and rebuild that system.

If you want to single out PP as the proponent of abortions, you're wrong. There are many OB/GYN's out there that support it as well, believe it or not.
