August 3, 200818 yr I brought up the King Holiday vote to prove a point. Senator Obama is wrong no matter what he does. Look at the responses it is being turned back around to how Obama is the only one talking about race. When Senator McCain apologized for his vote in front of the Lorraine Motel he wasn't thinking about the race of people he was talking to? When he talked in front of the Edmund Pettis bridge he didn't factor race into deciding where to make that speach? Let's be fair about this both campaigns are using race to a extent. If anyone denies that fact they are kidding themselves. :thumb: I've been saying this all along. Obama can do no right in the eyes of some people. It's funniest when they accuse Obama of doing the same thing that McCain is doing. It does go both ways.
August 3, 200818 yr So if Obama is playing the race card, McCain is not playing the age card? McCain jokes a lot about his age. That makes no sense. How would McCain "play the age card" to his advantage? Do you believe that more people are likely to vote for McCain because he is 72 or against him because of concerns about his long term ability to do the job?

If anyone denies that fact they are kidding themselves. If I think Mr. Obama is wrong, it has no more to do with the color of his skin than Mr. McCain's pasty hue has to do with the reasons I disagree with him. Race IMO is an overused/abused strawman often intended to keep attention away from issues of genuine substance. I'm not about to suggest that there aren't a lot of morons out there hung up on the wrapper and ignoring the contents. Give intelligent people issues and a gameplan of substance, get elected and prove the idiots for what they are... or, keep fronting, hope nobody figures it out, get elected and prove you're completely unprepared to be a president. Worst case, you lose but you do it with your head up and giving it your best shot instead of sounding like a whiner.

August 3, 200818 yr I agree that should go for people who complain about it being used also. What about people who complain that it will be used against them in the future? That is what Obama is doing. When pressed for examples of the McCain campaign playing the race card, they have been totally stumped. Yet, Obama keeps focusing on his blackness and how it will be used against him. Why doesn't he just run on his record?

When pressed for examples of the McCain campaign playing the race card, they have been totally stumped. Yet, Obama keeps focusing on his blackness and how it will be used against him. Why doesn't he just run on his record? Well maybe it has something to do with the track record of some of the tactics used during this campaing and those from the past. Willie Horton comes to mind. Trying to associate him with the Minister Louis Farrakhan. Zeroing in on his former church and pastor. Just to name a few.

Obama and his former pastors are associates of the lunatic Louis Farrakhan. Jeremiah Wright is a racist and Obama attended his church for more than 20 years before leaving it for political reasons. However, the McCain campaign has not made any of those facts issues in the general campaign. You must be confusing McCain with Bill and Hillary Clinton. Is it fair for Obama to lump McCain with other political adversaries simply because of the color of McCain's skin?

Read my post again I said this campaign and those in the past. That includes all of them Democrat or Republican. It is just as fair as when people lump Senator Obama in with all of the people mentioned in your post.

August 3, 200818 yr Can you list some examples where McCain has played or is playing the race card? 1. Speaking at the Lorraine Motel 2. Speaking at the Edmund Pettis Bridge 3. Complaining about the statement that Senator Obama made this week. The funny thing about this one is it was Senator McCain's campaign manager that first brought it up.
August 3, 200818 yr I asked a question earlier and no one answered...what percentage of the time is Obama allowed to mention race? The word "focus" has appeared quite frequently when discussing how Obama "focuses" on race. I have been watching a great deal of campaign footage this week...of both candidates...on both CNN and FoxNews. I can certainly say that he is NOT "focusing" his race. If he mentions it once in a 30 minute speech, how is that focus? It's not. Some of the media - and some posters on here - like to blow it completely out of proportion.
August 3, 200818 yr 1. Speaking at the Lorraine Motel 2. Speaking at the Edmund Pettis Bridge 3. Complaining about the statement that Senator Obama made this week. So, you believe that in the first two examples, McCain chose the locations to take a swipe at Obama for being a member of a minority? Complaining about Obama suggesting that McCain will play the race card in the future is an example of McCain playing the race card? These seem like stretches to me. Again, why can't Obama just run on his record and stop trying to paint McCain as a future racist and fear monger?

The funny thing about this one is it was Senator McCain's campaign manager that first brought it up. Quite a broad interpretation of playing the race card.
August 3, 200818 yr So, let me ask this of all of you. Is America ready for a black president? I, for one, couldn't care less about his skin color. I'm more interested in how he would run the country and how he would affect my pocket book. I'm more concerned how safe my job would be knowing his stance on guns and who he would appoint to the SC.
