The One flips again

Unless your income declined or you have sold your house, lost dependents, etc., you have been paying less federal income taxes than you did during the Clinton years. Maybe you should go over your returns again.

Hopefully, you will be voting for the fourth loser in as many elections. Eventually another Democrat will win the presidency, I just hope that he is not a socialist.

Well, at least when that "loser" Clinton ended his term, the budget was balanced. I can't understand all of the conservatives that are for "business" not being able to make comparisons between a huge debt for a country and that a business. If you make more expenditures then you bring in, your business will soon cease to exist. The Texas oil businessman that has been leading us the past 7.5 years has not shown that he is as business-savvy as his predecessor.

Liberals are quick to remember who was president when the budget was balanced but they always forget the Republican Congress that pressured Clinton into submitting a balanced budget. As I recall, Clinton initially set a target of 11 years for balancing the budget and after throwing out several other targets, he finally agreed to a target date that fell during his own term. Clinton deserves credit for balancing the budget but not exclusive credit.

Unfortunately, the Republican class of '94 gradually lost their way and began spending money on the same scale as their Democratic predecessors before them.

Conservatives do understand the folly of big government and excessive spending. We also understand the importance of controlling our borders, competitive tax rates, and not burdening business with unnecessary regulations and unfunded mandates.

George W. Bush is not a conservative. Ronald Reagan was our last conservative president.

Yet a similar Republican congress couldn't keep GWB from getting us in the red early in his term?

I wonder if GWB knows that he is not a conservative. :sssh:

I respect RR a great deal.

The Republican Congress that Bush had to work with was in no way, shape, or form similar to the Republican Congress that held Clinton's feet to the fire in the 1990's - and the Republican Party is now paying dearly for that fact.

I think that's true but a lot of it was true because they had become the "top dogs" and bloated themselves at the trough just as many Dems had before them.

Congress' approval rating is 16-18% (lower than Bush). I don't hear any of the libs on here calling for Pelosi or Reid's removal. I presume then we can call their statements as hypocritical and self-serving??

I've always felt that those ratings are apples to oranges at anytime.

Congress is a nameless, faceless entity that we all castigate. Bush (or clinton) are named persons. If approval/disapproval was 18 % it would go up dramatically when you say, "Do you approve of your Congressman or Senator?" (name that person) If it didn't, the bums wouldn't still be in their offices.

Obama must not be susceptible to whiplash. As flip-flops go, this one was gigantic and extremely quick - taking less than 48 hours to execute.

How can anybody believe anything that this guy says no matter how much they want to believe him?

Obama: "Now the latest scheme is well, we're going to drill offshore. Now, I want to be absolutely clear to everybody about this. If I thought that I could provide you some immediate relief on gas prices by drilling off the shores of California and New Jersey, I understand how desperate folks are. I met a guy who couldn't go on a job search that lost his job, couldn't go on a job search because of the high price of gas. Just couldn't fill up his tank. I met a teacher in South Dakota who loved her job as a teacher on an Indian reservation, she had to quit because the drive was too far, it was taking up too much of her paycheck. I know how bad people are hurting. So If I thought that by drilling offshore, we could solve our problem, I'd do it." (Sen. Barack Obama, Remarks At Campaign Event, Springfield, MO, 7/30/08)

"My interest is in making sure we've got the kind of comprehensive energy policy that can bring down gas prices," Obama said in an interview with The Palm Beach Post.

"If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage — I don't want to be so rigid that we can't get something done." - Sen. Barack Obama 8/1/08

^ That isn't even close. Being a proponent of offshore drilling and being willing to allow it as part of a compromise are not the same thing, i.e. a person who would "compromise" on it would not have to be a proponent.

It was scheme on Wednesday but something that he could accept on Friday. If that is not a 180-degree turn around in less than two-days - it is as close to a complete flip-flop as any politician has ever executed in such a short period of time. What changed between Wednesday and Friday for drilling to go from scheme to bargaining chip? Nothing.

As far as I know he has never said it is no longer a scheme.

I agree. The problem is that most Republicans are opposed to big, wasteful government programs. Democratic voters generally expect big spending and big programs from the people who they send to Washington.

Exactly. :thumb:

I hope that Obama resumes calling offshore drilling a scheme. Gasoline prices and Obama's ridiculous scheme to take "excess profits" from oil companies and give them away to the needy have the potential to sink his election hopes.

In fact, I hope that Democrats push a windfall profits bill through Congress and renew the moratorium on additional offshore oil leasing. I would like to for voters to get a good look at Obama's Marxist leanings before election day.

i would like to get a refund instead of paying taxes.

This doesn't make much sense to me. Did you receive a refund while not paying taxes during the Clinton years?

Why do you want a refund so bad?
