July 30, 200818 yr I'm sorry for being so poopy. Nice girl gets pregnant. Didn't plan it. Sperm donor won't help. Disgusted parents boot her out. Penniless and education on hold and in jeopardy, scared girl does not know what to do. The first thing I would do is head to the nearest Catholic Church. No other institution in the world has better resources to deal with this particular crisis. Next stop is to the County Attorney to deal with 1) the deadbeat sperm donor and 2) if the mother is under 18, her parents for abandoning her and abdicating legal responsibility. Well, I for one, have long said that our churches shedded themselves of their responsibility about the Great Depression time and the country has turned to the government instead of the churches. RM, has educated me on all the great programs that the Catholic Church has offered to help out and I applaud them for that. I have been told repeatedly that they problem is too large for the churches to handle and government has to handle it. I LOUDLY say hogwash. If I have to put my faith in accomplishing things behind the US government or God through the love of Jesus Christ, I am eagerly siding with the latter. I think the other denominations of Christianity need to step up and match what Catholicism is doing to help solve the problems of this country and this world. (Sorry, I think Catholicism is a denomination of Christianity but that is, as they say, another thread.) That is two things for you to post pep.
July 30, 200818 yr We'll it would be easy to see that they all would be aware of it. What would be hard would be getting the school systems to add this information as part of their sex ed programs. And isn't that a kick in the pants. You have a program to help teens and benefit them in their time of need and because of that pesky separation thing, you can't tell them about it.

If they did, do you think that would make boys think twice about not taking equal responsibility? Or even in having unprotected sex? Another issue I've run across a lot is a boy refusing to wear a condom. Some boys seem to think the responsibility of birth control is on the girl, and that the "inconveniences" of condoms is something they shouldn't have to deal with. If they knew they would be forced to take responsibility, could that be a deterrent, do you think?

I personally have what I call "birth control stories" that I share with my students. My children vomiting on me. My children pooping or peeing on me while changing diapers. My children doing this gross thing or that gross thing. If you are going to have sex and run the risk of being a parent, be prepared to be vomited, pooped or peed on.

I think we should start a rent-a-kid business. We should lease out ill-behaved two-year olds and infants with ear infections, and gastroesophogealreflux. BTW...my son was an infant with both chronic ear infections and GER, who was the master at smiling at you right before he launched into an impressive session of projectile vomiting, who would then scream with pain from the pressure in his ears. :lol: That lasted for almost 3 years.....he's my youngest. :lol:

If RvW was overturned there'd be a lot of people in some seriously bad positions and many of those people would need a lot of government assistance.

Many "conservatives" believe that the government assistance is unnecessary and that too many people receive government assistance. If abortion is outlawed, there are going to be a lot of people who probably will not have the money to raise children. These people are going to need money. That money will probably come from government aid. In my opinion, many of the same people who wanted RvW overturned would probably then be against providing aid to those new families who need it.

You must have missed or skimmed over the posts that have indicated that the Catholic Church has some great programs already in place and the challenge to other Christian denominations to step up and match those programs and be the leaders of solving these problems instead of government.

Perhaps, hb, but my experience is that being in a "seriously bad position" is the only thing that forces an individual to come to grips with poor personal behavior. At the root of this problem, more often than not, is reckless sex. That has got the change, and the law cannot be the enabler that it has been.

July 30, 200818 yr Well, maybe because your male, you may not see what obstacles there are. Here are a few: 1) No home. Let's say it's a teenager and the parents throw her out. 2) The father doesn't accept responsibility. Can be really tough for a young girl to deal with all alone. 3) Lost school time, could result in not finishing school. 4) No job 5) No money for pre-natal care. 6) Have the baby, try to raise it, and face any/all of the above. Yes, there are some social aid systems in place for some of these things. However, it's a huge task for a (in this example) teenage mother to figure out. They're scared. They often have no idea what the heck they're supposed to do. And, before Hearsay nails me on semantics, I'm not talking about the same segement of people he keeps throwing into the equation. I'm talking about an otherwise "good" girl who honestly did NOT ever plan to get pregnant, and never even thought about the abortion issue, as she didn't think she'd ever be in that position. Not to sound completely unsympathetic but simply because of Biology there's always going to be a inordinate amount of reesponsibilty that is heaped squarely on the female's shoulders in the case of an unwanted pregnancy. It's not fair but there's nothing that can be done about it. And for what it's worth I feel that males who father babies and then completely ignore their responsibilities are among the lowest scum of the earth and should be hounded doggedly by all legal means to financially bear the consequences of their irresponsible behaviour. And I'm sorry but when the otherwise "good" girl chooses to have sex it doesn't matter wehther she planned on getting pregnant or ever thought she would be in that position. She's there, now she has to accept the consequences of her actions. A parallell. When an otherwise "good" person chooses to drive after having one to many and then causes a wreck that injures or kills someone there are consecuences. Chances are they didn't plan to injure or kill anyone, and they didn't think they would ever be in that position but there they are none the less. In my little mind it's the same.
