August 4, 200818 yr What else could it be? He had two outings whre he pitched good enough to win and than a bad one. He is a rookie. It is going to happen. Yet, Cueto can have a bad game and he gets a free pass. It makes no sense. See the difference in Bailey and Cueto? Cueto had a horrible first inning today that wasn't helped any by Dunn's miscue in left. However, instead of drooping his shoulders, getting totally lit up and grinding down the bullpen he sucked it up and ended up going 6 innings and only allowed 3 earned runs. He's got a totally different makeup than Homer. If Cueto can cut down on his homeruns allowed (which I pointed out very early were going to be a problem) then he'll be a very effective starter. There's not one thing like homers that you can point to with Bailey, he has just stunk all the way around.

Hey now, it was more of a question to begin with after I posted a link to an article about GABP hurting the Reds young pitchers. :lol::lol::lol: Here's my original statement: Over his brief career Volquez has given up more ground ball outs than fly outs. It's only been two starts but Cueto's given up 9 ground balls and 12 flyballs--he's been incredible so far but what happens when the weather gets a little bit warmer and some of those seemingly routine flys carry out? At least I did get it right about Cueto. :lol: Even with his homerun problems his work ethic has impressed me. If Bailey would have had that first inning he'd have ended up giving up 9 runs on 13 hits in an inning and a third or something. I think Cueto and Volquez will really be a great top of the rotation down the road. :thumb:
August 4, 200818 yr For the Reds to be successful under Jocketty, he's going to have to unload players quicker before they lose their value (i.e. Griffey, Dunn, Bailey, etc.)
August 4, 200818 yr Since Bailey is scheduled to start, against the Brewers, sounds like management is giving him every chance to work out his problems. We can look at that, in two ways. (1) They still have confidence in him, correcting his problems and want him to compete against MLB hitters. (2) The other options, aren't ready yet to be a starter and they're looking at next year, since the Reds aren't in post-season mix.
