June 29, 200818 yr Author If he was at 97 pitches after 6 innings there is no way he was going to get a shot at the no hitter anyway. How many pitches are you going to allow him to throw in order to try and give him a chance to throw a no hitter? He's a Major League pitcher. One outing of 130 pitches is not going to kill his career. If he did that everytime out they there would be something wrong, but a big league pitcher can handle an outing of 130 pitches every now and then.
June 29, 200818 yr They lost, right? Too many people seemed wrapped up in individual stats or achievements than Ws and Ls. Give me a win, then we talk about the individual stuff.

As others have mentioned, the managers job is to put his team in the best position to win the ball game. He made the right move. You don't sacrifice a chance at a win for a players personal achievement.

June 29, 200818 yr Yes they lost. The Angels hitters should take the blame for that. I don't disagree.

June 30, 200818 yr Your behind a run, late innings, yes you pitch-hit for the pitcher.Winning the game should be no. 1 on the list.
June 30, 200818 yr Yeah a no-hitter is cool and all but it's team first and that's all that matters. If you have a no-hitter going and you're still losing then something is wrong. It was Weaver's fault they were losing in the first place. It was a good call by the manager. Pinch hit in that situation you need to score before you need a no-hitter.

The ball that was ruled an error on Weaver should have been ruled a hit. The only reason they ruled it a error is because he had a no-no going and they didn't want to ruin in a a weak hit like that.

The guy clearly would have been out had Weaver made the play. That is how an error is based. He booted it with his glove. That's called an error not a hit.

July 1, 200818 yr Then why was it ruled a hit, but changed a coulpe innings later to an error? Because people make mistakes, the people above them change it...It was in the 5th inning so to say that they changed it for the no-hitter is a little silly IMO. Maybe if it was 7th or 8th inning then yeah but not 5th.
July 1, 200818 yr Then why was it ruled a hit, but changed a couple innings later to an error?Official scorers, make judgment calls all the time and instantly, in many occasions. They also, have time to reevaluate a play and change, accordingly.
