16th Region 08/09

Then you remember that for two Qtrs. They didn't get the ball past half court. Hatchet-ized or not that's not very strong. And things will be the same again.

Well I'm not sure it equated to half the game but I didn't see anyone coming back up the floor to help. There was only one strong player on the floor for the Devils and that was Simpson. I wouldn't expect an eighth grader to handle that kind of pressure by herself against a team like Rowan had last year.

Officials are everyones cop out. I can only recall two games in the last 25 years that officiating determined the outcome. Good players take the hit and make the play anyway.
You expect that in the paint but you shouldn't need a helmet and shoulder pads in the open court.:D

Wasn't just an 8th grader that couldn't handle it. try soph. juniors and seniors. And Simpson was handling the ball 75% of the time. She is a good player but still has alot of room for improvement. Russell is not and has not been a one player show. I believe a soph. averaged the same amount of points and more rebounds than she did. Russell can be good this year. The fact remains that they need a quality point guard.

Wasn't quite that bad there Stone

The fouls that were not called on Rowan in the 16th region were called at Diddle. That resulted in major foul trouble which resulted in the Lady Vikings getting beat 60-49 by a team they were favored against.

I think they got hatchet-ized in the first game with Rowan . Rowan played very physical and got away with a lot of hands and pushing

I get sick and tired of hearing this same, lame, over-used whiney excuse year after year after year as it pertains to Rowan. They flat out get after you on Dfenz and so it would behoove most 16th region teams to toughen up. Maybe some other teams need to start "hatchetizing" or get "very physical" or use "hands and pushing". Rowan's been playing this way for years...time to move onto some other excuses...geesh!

Yes, and the lesson to be learned here is no different than a pitcher who must adjust to the varying strikezones of different umpires. Rowan should've realized early the refs (probably not from a metro area) were going to call it close and should have adjusted their aggressiveness...maybe not press so much, use a little more zone vs. man to man or traps, etc.

I would like to see the three-second rule called alot more this year.

Very good point. Do they have replacements for Barr and Spurlock?

What is the physical status of Rachel Vanderhoof?

It is my understanding that Vanderhoof has decided to give up basketball because of the condition of her knees.

That is a tough blow for the Lady Rams.

Hate that for a quality player and person like Rachel.

Is this for sure information? I wish Rachel the very best in either case.

I have been told by some players also that she is done but still is staying on the team to help the younger Lady Rams.

Sounds like something that Rachel Vanderhoof would do. Definitely a class act!
