Does Obama Know What He's Talking About?

Featured Replies

Speaking in unscripted environments on important issues, Barack Obama betrays a troubling lack of knowledge. He does not appear to know what he's talking about. In his interview with ABC's Jake Tapper earlier this week, for example, Obama advocated an approach to combating terrorism that is supposedly more attuned to legal issues than the Bush administration's:

It is my firm belief that we can track terrorists, we can crack down on threats against the United States. But we can do so within the constraints of our Constitution. Let's take the example of Guantanamo. What we know is that in previous terrorist attacks, for example, the first attack against the World Trade Center, we were able to arrest those responsible, put them on trial. They are currently in U.S. prisons, incapacitated.

Andrew McCarthy (the lead prosecutor of the perpetrators of the 1993 WTC attack) comments:

This is a remarkably ignorant account of the American experience with jihadism. In point of fact, while the government managed to prosecute many people responsible for the 1993 WTC bombing, many also escaped prosecution because of the limits on civilian criminal prosecution. Some who contributed to the attack, like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, continued to operate freely because they were beyond the system’s capacity to apprehend. Abdul Rahman Yasin was released prematurely because there was not sufficient evidence to hold him — he fled to Iraq, where he was harbored for a decade (and has never been apprehended).[/Quote]

Not to defend Obama, or to bash Bush, but I don't think either are the best when surprised by a question that they haven't prepard for. Frankly, I think the reason we don't bash more politicians, is that they simply aren't put on the spot like that. Now, whether that's because their "handlers" don't allow them to be, or because they avoid those questions, I don't know.

I haven't really seen much of McCain's public speaking, except a youtube video of an rambling wackadoo at one of the town hall meetings recently. However, given McCain's long involvement in American politics, I could see where he'd be much better at fielding those types of questions.

Obama is extremely well spoken when reading a teleprompter.

I recall that one of liberals' most frequent criticisms of Ronald Reagan was that he was just an actor reading a script well. That was never true, as anyone who has read Reagan's own extensive writing during the years that preceded his presidency, but that is how many liberals prefer to think of Reagan. An idiot who could read his lines.

Obama will spend as little time answering impromptu questions and debating McCain as possible. McCain is very good at answering questions that allow him to draw on his many years of experience but he is pretty bad at delivering prepared speeches. If I were McCain, I would be tempted to shadow Obama on the campaign trail and ridiculing him for being afraid to answer questions or engage in a debate on the issues.

Wow, what a surprise. A conservative blog talking bad about Barack Obama. I'm shocked. (Sarcasm: off)

BTW about the first attack on the WTC. Some federal agencies had information that it might happen and I believe they chose to ignore that information. Before 9/11 our national security was a joke. I'm not sure if it is much better now, but pre 9/11 it was awful. There were terrorists running free in the U.S. making money off of our government and sending it back to support terrorist organizations in the Middle East. Not to mention terrorist organizations like Al-Qaeda were operating training camps inside the U.S. in the early 90's.

Doesn't mean it's wrong nor does it mean it isn't credible, unless you only view sources from the left as credible. :sssh:
