Does changing states make any difference to the KHSAA? Does Bylaw 6 make any distinction about coming from out of state? I haven't read the bylaw, just seen snippets listed on here.

 

Regardless who knows about the KHSAA. I would have expected Jackson to be ruled ineligible before Euton. So who knows? Frankly it seems like the just make arbitrary rulings.

One humongous difference...Zollo is coming from Ohio.

 

From the KHSAA Handbook:

Case BL-6-9- How are students transferring from out of

state schools treated under Bylaw 6, Sec. 1?

Students transferring from out of state schools are subject to the

provisions of Bylaw 6, Sec. 1 if they participated in any varsity

game in any sport at any out of state school following enrolment

in grade nine (9).

 

The KHSAA makes no differentiation between students who transfer from out-of-state v/s those who are in-state transfers.

Thanks Plato, that is what I thought based on some of the cases that have been discussed. If Euton was ruled inelibible based on the comments in the paper, then I think Zollo might be in trouble also.

 

I was really hoping to see some of these future UK recruits play.

 

Of course if I was a parent of a future UK player, I am not sure I would want my kid playing here in central KY. Too many critics and arm chair coaches and recruitors.

Understood, but I still think being from Ohio, despite the bylaw, does have some credence in the decision making process.

Clearly, the mother's comments were much much more tactful with the press.

I don't believe that anyone at GRC had to contact Zollo. It is my understanding that the president of WKYT, who just happens to be from Clark Co., made all the contacts.

 

I think it is about time that the KHSAA did it's job about these situations and several others.

 

The Euton situation had nothing to do with illegal contact and neither does my question in this case.

The letter of the KHSAA by-law says that a kid can't transfer for athletic gain. Euton's dad talked about all the athletic gain his son would experience at Scott Co. in several articles in the Herald Leader.

Zollo is coming to KY to play basketball closer to UK. If this is true (and provable) then it would also be for athletic gain.

The KHSAA is saying with the Euton ruling that the athletic gain clause trumps all other reasons including legitimate change of residence.

Not really. If they transferred to a bottom feeder and put in the paper that they went there so their kid could shoot every shot and lead the state in scoring - the KHSAA could deem that "for athletic gain".

 

Know this - I'm for the kid being eligible if they move. I think the KHSAA is out of bounds with all these details. I just think it's a topic worth discussing.

I agree. "Athletic Gain" is something that can be left open to interpretation and the KHSAA needs to define where the boundaries are...

That shouldn't have squat to do with it. The KHSAA can't put restrictions on where you work and live. There are thousands of people who live in the counties surrounding Fayette and still work in Lexington, while their children attend Madison, Scott, and Clark County schools.

When you choose a school in another community and publicly state you chose that school for it's sports program I can see where the overall picture gets cloudy. I think Euton's Dads comments may have been enough to throw a big red flag up. I wonder if he would be eligible to play at GRC?

As half if not more of the people in surronding county's.

Here in Scott Co. probly more than half that work at toyota commute from

another county. So what is the problem with him commuting?

Yeah there have been many kids live in Madison and somehow end up at Catholic!

Because his commute is so his son can play at Scott county! He said it for the world to see. That in my opinion is moving for athletic reasons. Re read the article and what his Dad said, classic case of open mouth insert foot.
